CHENEY LAKE – We now know the name of the man injured in a one vehicle accident near Cheney Lake early Sunday. He has been identified as 22-year-old Scott Barber of Haysville.
According to Reno County Sheriff Deputy David Post, at around 1:38 a-m, emergency crews were dispatched to the west entrance of the lake on 21st. But, the vehicle was finally found at Titan Rd., and Maple Grove.
The vehicle driven by Barber was traveling west on Maple Grove. He apparently failed to make the curve and went straight into the ditch before striking a tar pile. The pile launched the vehicle into the air and over two trees. The vehicle then caught fire and the driver was trapped in the vehicle. A witness saw the fire and stopped to help and pulled Barber from the vehicle.
E-M-S transported him to Via-Cristi St. Francis Regional Medical Center for treatment on injuries.
Barber’s vehicle was destroyed from the fire, including the tag and VIN number. Sedgwick County Sheriff Deputies followed E-M-S to the hospital to get a blood draw. Alcohol is suspected as being a contributing factor.
