CHENEY – A 57-year-old Pretty Prairie woman was taken to a Wichita hospital after a two vehicle accident on U-S 54 highway in Sedgwick County Thursday morning.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Debbie Lawrence and another vehicle driven by 60-year-old Nancy Diepenbrock of Murdock were both eastbound in the right lane of the highway, and Lawrence started to change to the left lane to pass the other vehicle. For an unknown reason, she lost control, and struck Diepenbrock’s vehicle on the drivers side. Both vehicles then went into the south ditch, and her vehicle rolled and came to rest on its top. Diepenbrock’s vehicle then struck a guard rail and came to a stop.

Lawrence was taken to Via-Cristi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita for treatment. According to the highway patrol report, she was not wearing a seatbelt, while Diepenbrock was.

The accident occurring about 6:30 a-m Thursday, about a mile east of Cheney.
