HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Fire Department responded to 100 West Avenue G for a structure fire Sunday night at 7:30.

Hutchinson Engine 3 was out of quarters and returning to the station when its alert senses focused on the smell of smoke.

Firefighters investigated the area and located a house on fire. They found heavy smoke and flames pushing from a single-story residential home. Fire crews performed an aggressive interior attack and were able to stop the spread of fire, however, not before it did extensive interior damage. The home was vacant at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
