Although Amtrak saw record ridership during the thanksgiving holiday, it didn’t translate to many more passengers aboard the Southwest Chief than the previous year.
The Chief which serves Kansas including Hutchinson had a total ridership for the seven-day counting period of 8,723, up from 8,669 the previous year. That’s an increase of just 6/10ths of 1%.
System wide long distance trains on Amtrak saw ridership increase by just under 2% while system wide.
Amtrak ridership during the Thanksgiving period increased by almost 3% to more than 724-thousand passengers.
