A 33-year-old Hutchinson man sentenced to nearly 80-years in prison for raping four young kids has lost this appeal with the Kansas Supreme Court.

Jared Race was convicted in 2008 of 9-counts involving sexual abuse of four young girls. He maintained through out the trial that the whole thing was a set up by three women he had a relationship with at the same time.

Race appealed his conviction on several issues, including evidence that was presented in court regarding the discovery of child pornography which he claimed was hearsay. The court also ruled that the absence of a juror for two minutes while deliberations continued or that a juror saw the defendant in shackles was not enough to warrant a mistrial. And, that the defendants age was not presented at the trial though an error was still not enough for a dismissal because it was uncontested by the defense.

Race did not get the sympathy of Judge Tim Chambers who sent him to prison for life without the possibility of parole for 79-years. That’s added to time Race must now finish up in a 1996 case where he tried to rob a local restaurant and held three people against their will.

He served ten years of that sentence for 3-counts of aggravated kidnapping and escape. But was set free early.

All together race is serving a total sentence of nearly 100 years.
