Several area High School Volleyball teams were participating in various sub-state competitions around the state, but only a few punched their tickets to State Tournaments next weekend.

The Hutchinson Salthawks saw their season come to an end as Liberal defeated the Salthawks 25-21, 25-23.  Derby then defeated Liberal 25-8, 25-13 to capture the sub-state they hosted.  Derby advances on to the State Tournament November 1-2 in Salina.

In 4A it was Andale (33-2) defeating Augusta 25-19, 25-15, and El Dorado eliminated Buhler 25-17, 10-25, 25-19.  In the Championship game to see who goes to State, Circle won it’s sub-state over El Dorado 25-15, 25-21.

Nickerson won’t have far to travel to 4A State at the Sports Arena in Hutchinson, as the Panthers defeated Chapman 25-22, 15-25, 25-21 to win their sub-state.

In 3A, it was Cheney over Hesston 25-18, 23-25, 25-21 to qualify for 3A State in Hutchinson.  Cheney won over Haven in the opening round 25-10, 25-13 and Halstead was defeated by Hesston in the quarterfinals 25-20, 25-12.

Garden Plain also defeated Sedgwick 25-20, 25-20 to advance to 3A/4A in Hutch.

In 2A sub-states Inman defeated Hutchinson-Trinity Catholic 15-25, 25-21, 25-19 in the opening round and it was Sterling over Moundridge 25-20, 25-22 also in an opening round match, but nether Inman or Sterling advanced out of sub-state.
