Arraignment for a Hutchinson man bound over for trial in auto burglaries case continued

The arraignment hearing for one of two suspects allegedly involved in a string of burglaries involving law enforcement vehicles has been continued to Friday to accommodate his attorney.

21-year-old Victor Smith along with 19-year-old Sheridan Kiraly are charged with 16-counts of auto burglaries which involve breaking into police and sheriff vehicles, vehicles belonging to public officials or their family, and private citizens. Smith is also charged with possession of marijuana.

He was supposed to be arraigned on Monday, but that was delayed to accommodate the schedule of his Wichita Attorney, Charlie O’Hara.

The state still hasn’t presented any evidence of the earlier drug case against Smith. He’s charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to package, personal use drug paraphernalia and no tax stamp. Also arrested was 19-year-old Michael Kirk. He was charged with possession of marijuana.

Officers says they found a safe in closet in a bedroom, and inside, there coin sized zip lock bag containing what they believe was powder cocaine, about 3.5 grams. They also allegedly found two digital scales which they alleged had white powder residue on them, as well as additional new zip lock bags. In a freezer, they allegedly found marijuana, and also in the kitchen were two bongs that smelled of burnt marijuana.

A preliminary hearing in this case is set for a later date.

Smith’s bond in that case was set at 29-thousand 500-dollars, but after his arrest for the burglaries, it was raised to 100-hundred thousand, but his attorney Charlie O’Hara was able to get that lowered to 75-thousand, while Kiraly’s stays at 100-thousand.

18-year-old Madison Smalling of Hutchinson was able to make bond after her initial arrest and is charged with 10-counts of auto burglary. She still awaits a preliminary hearing.
