Attorney, parents of missing KC baby respond to local attorney’s

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – The attorney for the parents of a missing Kansas City baby says a news conference by his former local co-counsel in the case shows why she is no longer involved.

Joe Tacopina tells The Associated Press that Cyndy Short’s comments Monday are a distraction from the search for Lisa Irwin. Short told reporters she could not work with Tacopina because their approach to the case was so different.

Lisa, then 10 months old, was discovered missing Oct. 4 when her father came home from a late shift at work and couldn’t find her.

Tacopina says he asked Short to be his local counsel, but the family later decided they didn’t want her to be involved.

The family also issued a statement Monday saying Short’s news conference convinced them they were correct in their decision.
