Beverly Ann Johnson | 1946 – 2018 |

Beverly Ann Johnson, 71, died May 8, 2018, at her home in rural Plevna. She was born August 9, 1946, in San Diego, California, to LaVern and Lorene (King) Young.

Beverly attended Arlington Schools, but they closed her senior year. Subsequently, she graduated from Partridge High School in 1965 and Sidney’s Hairdressing College in 1973. She was a hairdresser, prep cook, and housewife. Beverly was a member of Abbyville Community Church.

She married Larry ‘Jake’ Holt in 1967. He passed away in 1972. On July 21, 1973, she married Ray Alan Johnson in Plevna. They shared almost 45 years of marriage.

Beverly is survived by: husband, Ray; children, Kirk Holt (Sandy) of Denton, Texas, Monica Schrag (Casey) of Nickerson, Melanie Apfel (Jerry Kipp) of Hutchinson, and Marla Dattilo of Abbyville; brothers, Steven Ewing of Elkhart, Michael Young of Culpeper, Virginia; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her mother and step father, Lorene and Clyde Ewing; father, LaVern Young; and brother, Jeff Young.

Cremation has taken place. Private graveside service will be in Abbyville Cemetery, with the Pastor Dale Levering presiding. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Keith Dellenbach presiding. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson.

Memorials may be made to Shiloh Ministries or Kindred Hospice, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Carl Joseph Buhrman | 1929 – 2018 |

U.S. VeteranCarl Joseph Buhrman, 89, of Hutchinson, died Friday, May 4, 2018, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born January 5, 1929, in Attica, Kansas, the son of Charlie and Mary (Nicholson) Buhrman.

Carl graduated from Attica High School in 1948, and was drafted into the United States Army in 1951. He was stationed at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina, where he served his country.

He was baptized in the Attica United Methodist Church in 1962, and was currently attending Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church in Hutchinson. On January 17, 1951, he married Wilma Jean Kernohan in Medicine Lodge. They shared 67 years of marriage. She survives. Carl is also survived by: sons, Ronald Joseph Buhrman and wife Deb of Hesston and Wesley Scott Buhrman of Hutchinson; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Clarence; and sister, Francis.

He was preceded in death by: brothers, Ricky and Bill; sisters, Anna Mae and Ruth; and two half-brothers, from his father’s first marriage, Everett and Russell.

Carl worked as the Superintendent for the City of Attica prior to making a job change, where he spent most of his career working for Cities Service Gas Company. Carl had fond memories of growing up on a farm and enjoyed helping his mother manage the farm after the passing of his father. Other interests Carl had were square dancing and country dancing with Jean, raising quarter horses, camping, fishing, and being able to spend time with family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2018, at Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church, 300 W. 10th, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Richard Brooks officiating. Military honors will be conducted at the church by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary. The family will greet friends following the funeral service at the church. Memorials may be made to Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Sherrill Lee Bredfeldt | 1934 – 2018 |

Sherrill Lee Bredfeldt, 84, of Hutchinson, died May 3, 2018, Hospice House, Hutchinson. Survived by: wife, Connie of the home; sister, Carol Hutton of Corona, CA; and brother, Ronald of Arlington. At Sherrill’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no services. Memorials may be made to Hutchinson Public Library, in care of Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.

Michael P. “Mike” Baker | 1956 – 2018 |

Michael P. ‘Mike’ Baker, 62, of Hutchinson, died Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. He was born April 16, 1956, in Long Beach, California, to Earl and Laura (Cook) Baker.

Mike worked at Tyson Foods as a maintenance mechanic for over 16 years. He also enjoyed stamp collecting and performing small electrical repair work for family and friends.

On June 20, 1998, he married Kathy Sherwood at Carey Park, under the willows by the brook. They shared almost 20 years of marriage.

Mike is survived by: wife, Kathy of Hutchinson; sons, John of Lawrence, Frank Clune (Lyndsey) of Hutchinson; brother, Ronald Baker (Judy); sister, Shelly Trotter, all of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Zane Clune, Gage Clune, Kyndsey Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews; and fur babies, Heidi, Joey, Ellis, and Suzie.

He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Luke Helmuth officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary. Memorials may be made to the Hutchinson Animal Shelter, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Darold E. Devena | 1933 – 2018 |

Darold E. Devena, 85, of Hutchinson, joined his Savior in his heavenly home, Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community, Buhler.  He was born February 28, 1933, in Columbus, Kansas, to Edward ‘Ernie’ and Mary (Daniels) Devena.

Darold graduated from Haven High School in 1951 and then entered the United States Army, proudly serving during the Korean War.  He worked as fertilizer manager for Mid Kansas Co-op and farmed.  Darold was a Boston Red Sox fan, volunteered leading singing in area nursing homes, and was a member of American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68. Darold was a 38-year member of Union Valley Bible Church, where he volunteered for the churches jail ministry, and was very involved in Gideons International.  His greatest joy was the time he shared with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

On September 8, 1956, he married Marilyn Taylor in Hutchinson.  She died February 19, 2013, after sharing 57 years of marriage.

Survivors include:  daughters, Diana Allen and husband Walt of Bozeman, Montana, Roberta Mugler and husband Gary of Salina, Gale Devena of Hutchinson; son, Dale Devena of Salina; grandchildren, Megan George and husband Joe, Amy Revious and husband Joshua, Linsey Smith and husband Robert, Garett Mugler and wife Kelsey, Mitchell Mugler, Natalie Devena, Audrey Devena; nine great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Sally Devena of Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Carrol Wayne ‘C.W.’ Devena.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at Union Valley Bible Church, 1916 E. 30th, Hutchinson, with Pastor Steve Hodgson officiating.  Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with military honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Union Valley Bible Church or Gideons International, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS  67501.
