Martha Dorene Morgan, 80, of Hutchinson, died May 20, 2018, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born August 20, 1937, in Hutchinson, to Luke and Eva (McQueen) Leffel.

Dorene was a homemaker and loved to do crafts of all kinds and attend garage sales. She was a member of New Life Church of the Nazarene and loved spending time with her church group, ETS (Eat, Travel, Shop).

On January 1, 1998, Dorene married Jack Morgan in Hutchinson. He survives.

Other survivors include: son, Dan Mathis (Pam); daughter, Cindy Estes (Mark), all of Hutchinson; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husbands, Gene Mathis and Harold ‘Gene’ Bybee; son, Ken Mathis; and seven brothers and sisters.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at New Life Church of the Nazarene, 200 E. Campbell, Hutchinson, with Pastor Gary Worthington officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

Duane Allen Bridgeman, 84, of Loveland, Colorado, passed away Friday, May 18, 2018. Son of Leonard and Edith (Ehling) Bridgeman, He was born October 20, 1933, in the family farmhouse outside of Abbyville, Kansas, the only son and the fifth of six children. Duane graduated from Abbyville High School in 1951 and Hutchinson Community College in 1954. He served two-years in the Army, in Germany, where an auto accident in which his jeep was rear-ended resulted in 22 surgeries over the course of his life. He married Helen Adabel (Baum) Bridgeman of Plevna, Kansas on April 6, 1958 at the Abbyville Methodist Church in a hailstorm on Easter Sunday.

After his army service, surgeries, marriage and two children later, he completed his B.A at Sterling College in 1962 and taught for a semester in a country school north of Great Bend, Kansas and then for two years in Ellinwood Kansas. In 1964, he packed his wife, his then three children and a fishbowl full of guppies into the family car and moved to Loveland, Colorado where he continued his education and taught for three years at Garfield and Truscott Elementary Schools. He received his M.A. in guidance counseling from Colorado State University in 1967 and then took a position as a guidance counselor at Bill Reed Jr High, where he worked until his retirement in 1990. After retirement, he enjoyed substitute teaching and working as a greeter in Sam’s while his health allowed it.

Duane received his greatest satisfaction and joy from young people. Generations of Loveland youth received Mr. B’s time, care and attention.   A favorite memory of his children is of all the time they got to spend with him during his summers off from school. He would pile 20 or so neighborhood kids (from just five homes; it was a prolific street) into the back of his green pickup truck and take them swimming at the old Loveland pool on South Cleveland.

For two farm kids from Kansas, Duane and Helen were fortunate after retirement to be able to travel, visiting all 50 states, and 3 continents, making five overseas trips. It was important to him to visit the military cemeteries wherever they traveled.

His hobbies included music, gardening and bicycling. He directed the church choir at the former Evangelical United Brethren Church and later at the First Baptist Church, and enjoyed singing in barbershop choirs. For several years, he sang in a gospel trio with his son Bruce Bridgeman and friend John Thut, where they performed in many churches in Kansas and Colorado.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, four children Beth(Ed) of Yellow Springs Ohio, Chuck (Lisa), of Missoula, Montana, Bruce (Chris) of Great Falls, Montana, David, of Loveland, fifteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and his sisters Rose Holcomb, Marjory Garrett, Milbry Haag and Connie Depew.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Charlyne Wilt, and brother-in-law Pinky Busick.

Funeral services will be Crossroads Church, 5420 N. Taft Ave, Loveland, at 10 am on Thursday May 24. Visitation will be held at the church prior to services. Interment will be at the Plevna, Kansas cemetery. An open house will be held at the Plevna Community Church at 10 am on Friday, May 25. Charles Harrison, 53, of Hutchinson, passed away May 14, 2018, at his home.

Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2018, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 518 E. 43rd Ave., Hutchinson.

Charles is survived by: parents, George and Patricia Harrison; wife, Alicia; children, Christina (Ferran) Shrier, Catherine Shrier, Tierca (Seth) Harding, Shalee(Gabriel) Munoz, Collin Harrison; as well as grandson, Adonihash Munoz; seven siblings; and 30 nieces and nephews.

Charles was born and raised in Orem, Utah, where he graduated from Mountain View High School and Brigham Young University.

His passion for serving others was reflected not only in his family life and church service, but also his dedication to his career in facilities management. His enthusiasm for life included his love of: beekeeping, hiking, woodworking, cooking, baking, quilting, singing, telling cow jokes, model aeronautics, hobby farming, home remodeling, adventurer/explorer, and most of all, making people smile.

Charles was and is deeply loved by all who had the pleasure to know him. He had a special talent for making those he talked to feel loved and heard. He will be greatly missed by family, friends, co-workers, and fellow church members.

Delmas Donald Ridge, 76, of Hutchinson, died Saturday, May 12, 2018. He was born October 19, 1941, at Turon, the son of Fred B. and Irene Pearl (Pennel) Ridge.

He attended Turon schools, and was an Army veteran serving in Germany. Delmas had been a butcher for Winchester Packing Co. and then a mechanic for the City of Hutchinson.

On July 5, 1986, he married Linda Sue Lewis in Hutchinson. She survives. Also surviving are: daughter, Daphne Aikens of Arlington; stepdaughters, Denise Bolden of Wichita, and Lita Nelson of Macon, MO; sister and brother, Gladys Ray and E. Maynard Ridge, both of Hutchinson; granddaughter, Josian M. Ridge of South Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, infant Daniel, Fred ‘Bennie’ and David W. Ridge.

Visitation with family present will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2018, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson. Kansas Army National Guard will be conducting honors at this time. Jim Hopengardner, 84, of Hutchinson, died Thursday, May 10, 2018, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born September 7, 1933, in Hutchinson, to Earl and Katie (Burling) Hopengardner. Jim graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1951. He served in the United States Navy, during the Korean War, from 1953 to 1955.

Jim was the owner of Central Glass, working there for over 46 years. After retirement from Central Glass, he worked at the Hutchinson Clinic in the building and maintenance department for 14 years. Jim called and taught square dancing, volunteered at the Kansas Cosmosphere for several years, was a Boy Scout leader and trainer, and worked part-time at the Kansas State Fair for over 25 years. He was a member of the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68. In addition, Jim was a member of the Midian Shrine Temple in Wichita, and volunteered driving children to Shriners Hospitals for Children in St. Louis, where he was a member of the Midian Shriner’s ‘Cartoon Unit’. Jim was a 32nd Degree Mason and past Master of the Hutchinson-Reno Masonic Lodge #124 A.F. & A.M. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Jim was adventurous, earning a pilot’s license at age 60 and sky-diving for his 60th birthday.

On June 22, 1952, he married Patricia Ann ‘Pat’ Miller in Hutchinson. They shared almost 66 years of marriage.

Jim is survived by: wife, Pat; son, Mark Hopengardner (Kim); daughter, Lynn Harris (Larry Kucharo); granddaughter, Jamie Harris; grandson, Clint Harris (Ashleigh) and their children, Carter and Dahlia, all of Hutchinson; and sister-in-law, Betty Wyer (PeeWee) of Nickerson.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Earl Hopengardner; and sister, Betty Spain.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 18, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Sherman, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Mark H. Miller officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Private family inurnment will take place in the church columbarium. Friends may sign the book from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday at Elliott Mortuary. It is with sadness that the family of Lois Charlyne Wilt announces her passing after a brief illness on Sunday, May 6, 2018, at the age of 92 years. She will be greatly missed by her devoted and loving husband, Warren, of almost 72 years, her children, and grandchildren. Charlyne and Warren were married on August 8, 1946 in the Abbyville Methodist Church. They had four children and lived most of their married life in Abbyville, Kansas.

Charlyne was oldest of six, born to Leonard and Edith Bridgeman on January 2, 1926 at Abbyville. She took this role very seriously. It was her house where the family of over 50 members met for holiday dinners. Long before dishwashers and microwaves, she was often busy prepping meals for her beloved sisters, brother, and their children. Many of her nieces and nephews still recall her playing ‘Puff the Magic Dragon’ on the piano and helping the children learn the words to perform for the adults after the holiday meal had been devoured.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson and was involved with numerous church endeavors’.

Charlyne loved children and spent her working life as a teacher at Elreka Grade School in the Haven School District. She spent most of her working life teaching fourth grade students and shared with them her passion for the subject of science. Charlyne often recounted her students’ eagerness to learn and reminisced about her experiences as a teacher until the final days of her life.

She is survived by: husband, Warren Wilt, son Brad Wilt (Penny Wilt) of Hutchinson, daughter Dr. Susan Holsapple (Dr. James Holsapple) of Boston, MA, daughter Judy Polson (John Polson) of Overland Park; grandchildren, Emily Bush, Nicholas Holsapple, Erica York, Zachary Wilt, Zachary Polson, Lucas Polson, Sophie Polson and two great grandchildren, Will and Ben Bush; siblings, Rose Marie Holcomb (Theron) of Plevna, Milbry Ruth Haag (Ron) of Hutchinson, Marge Garrett (Reed) of Woodbine, Duane Bridgman (Helen) of Loveland, CO, and Connie Depew (Bill) of Hutchinson. Charlyne was predeceded in death by her parents; son Nolan; twin grandchildren Haley and David Wilt; and brother-in-law, Clifford A. ‘Pinky’ Busick Jr.

A celebration of Charlyne’s life will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2018, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Jeanine I. Rishel presiding. Friends may sign her book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. until service time at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson.
