Donna Mae Rump | 1929 – 2018 |

Donna Mae Rump, 88, of Hutchinson, died Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born August 18, 1929, at Clinton, Kansas, the daughter of William Ray and Erma (Weybright) Harrell.

She was a 1947 graduate of Lawrence High School. Donna was a charter member of both Northminster and New Covenant Presbyterian Churches, serving as a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Northminster. She was active in her children’s PTA at Roosevelt Elementary School.
Donna had been a clerk for Amy’s Hallmark at the Hutchinson Mall for 11 years.

On August 4, 1948, she married Melvin Rump at Danford Chapel at Kansas University, Lawrence. He died March 1, 1992. She is survived by: children, Barbara Storment and husband Danny of Parsons, Larry and wife Nedra, Nancy Lee, all of Hutchinson; sister, Darlene Logsdon of Apple Valley, CA; stepsister, Bea Churchman of Olathe; grandchildren, Jeremy Storment (Nikki), Nicholas Storment (Lori), Cortney Jarman (Brice Lamb), Kaci Hoffman (Matt); and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her parents; brothers, Gerald, Olin and Bob Harrell; sister, Betty Todd; and stepsister, Virginia Clark.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2018, at New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 700 E. 25th Avenue, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Craig Waetke presiding. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park. Visitation is from 12 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to New Covenant Presbyterian Church or Pleasant View Home (Memory Care Unit), in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Harrison “Lee” Graham | 1943 – 2018 |

U.S. Veteran

Lee Graham, 74, of Hutchinson, died Sunday, April 22, 2018, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.  He was born May 4, 1943, in Hays, to Harrison Keith and Ilis Fannie (McGuire) Graham.

Lee graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1961 and attended Hutchinson Community College.  He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.   Lee inspected mines and retired from Hutchinson Community College, where he was in charge of the Mine Safety Program.  Lee loved cars, was a member of the Corvette Club, and enjoyed eating at Firehouse Café.

On September 15, 1977, he married Linda Stover in Hutchinson.  She died July 5, 2012.

Lee is survived by:  nephews, Vince Stover of Aliso Viejo, California, Michael Stover (Connie) and their sons, Ryan, Dylan, Sean, and Aidan, all of Oceanside, California; sister-in-law, Josie Stover of Laguna Hills, California; his beloved companion, Barkley; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Robert Stover.

Cremation has taken place.  Celebration of Life will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2018, at Elliott Mortuary, with Pastor Darryl Peterson officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard.  Following the service, friends and family are invited to gather at the Firehouse Café, 1824 E. 4th Avenue, Hutchinson, to share more memories of Lee.

Private family inurnment will take place at a later date in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Friends may sign the book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and 9:00 a.m. until service time Friday at Elliott Mortuary.  Memorials may be made to the Hutchinson Animal Shelter, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS  67501.

Donald L. “Leon” Shorter | 1933 – 2018 |

Donald Leon Shorter, 84, died Monday, April 23, 2018, at his son’s home in Goddard.  He was born May 18, 1933, in Ponca City, OK, to Ivan and Lucille (Ward) Shorter.

Leon graduated from Tonkawa High School in Tonkawa, OK, and Bartlesville Business College in Bartlesville, OK. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. Leon worked as office manager for Gas Service Company in Hutchinson for 34 years until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of Countryside Baptist Church, Hutchinson. Leon loved to tell everyone about Jesus, he loved the outdoors and people, giving out mints and hugs to everyone he met.

On August 29, 1958, he married Patricia ‘Patsy’ June Raley in Ramona, OK.  She survives. They shared nearly 60 years of marriage. Leon is survived by: son, Larry Shorter and wife Jan of Goddard; daughter, Tammy Bass and husband Martin of Pratt; grandchildren, Erick Shorter, Joshua Shorter and wife Karyn, Katlyn Shorter, Heather Davidson and husband Brock, Ryan Bass, Kristen Morgan and husband Kyle; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Leroy.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2018, at Countryside Baptist Church, 819 W. 30th Ave., Hutchinson, with Pastors Ron Kyker and Steve Sherbenou officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Burial will take place at a later date. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, with the family to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Countryside Baptist Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Warren Ray Whithorn | 1939 – 2018 |

Warren Ray Whithorn, 79, of Hutchinson, passed away on April 18, 2018. He was born on February 17, 1939, in Nevada, Missouri, to Virgil and Almeda Whithorn.

Warren attended Hutchinson High School and Sidney’s Hairdressing College and was a licensed cosmetologist.

For a short period of time, he worked as a CNA for elders suffering from Alzheimier’s and dementia. He also worked at Dillons in the advertising department.

In November 1985, he married the love of his life, Hazel Whithorn. She passed away on April 5, 1999.

Warren’s joy in life was music. He enjoyed all kinds of music but his favorite was gospel. Warren could play the piano, organ, and the guitar. He had a very beautiful singing voice as well.

Warren did lots of volunteer work from delivering Meals On Wheels to styling ladies hair in the nursing homes. He had a very big heart!

Warren loved to play bingo and enjoyed receiving lottery tickets on every holiday. His favorite was the scratch- offs.

Warren was preceded in death by: his parents, Virgil and Almeda; three brothers, Dale, Howard, and Lewis Whithorn; and four sisters, Alice Lightner, Dorothy Mackey, Velma Miller, and Evelyn Hendershot; and his loving wife, Hazel Whithorn.

He is survived by his brother, Lee Whithorn (Virginia), and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2018, at Wesley Towers Evans Chapel, 3709 Asbury Drive, Hutchinson, with Pastor Bob Phipps presiding.

Cremation has taken place and a private family burial will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Windom Cemetery Association in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS, 67501.

Betty Mae Whitmore | 1932 – 2018 |

Betty Mae Whitmore, 85, of Hutchinson died April 18, 2018, at Pleasant View Home, Inman. She was born November 10, 1932, in rural Reno County, to Gideon and Mary (Stewart) Troyer.

Betty attended Haven High School and was known as a meticulous seamstress who enjoyed sewing for friends and family. She was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary #68, Double Circle Sunday school class, United Methodist Women, and First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson. Betty loved to paint, decorate cakes, and volunteer working with the church youth group.

On July 31, 1949, she married Benjamin Whitmore in Haven. He died June 7, 2016, after sharing 66 years of marriage.

Betty is survived by: children, Nina Goodrick (Terry Nitschke) of Oak Harbor, Ohio, Lamont Whitmore (Cindy) of Inman, Ricky Whitmore of Hutchinson, Tim Whitmore (Amy) of Santa Ana, California; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; siblings, Doris Ogden, Donna Lee Riley, Gordon Troyer; and daughter-in-law, Daisy Whitmore.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2018, at First United Methodist Church, 101 East 1st Avenue, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Jeff Slater officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
