Brett Palmatier-Myers | 2001 – 2018 |

Brett Palmatier-Myers, died April 7, 2018, at his home in Mt. Hope, Kansas. He was born February 8, 2001, in Hutchinson, Kansas, to Timothy Myers and Wendy Palmatier.

He was a junior at Haven High School, Haven, Kansas.

Brett is survived by: mother, Wendy (Palmatier) Kowitz and step-father, James Shive of Mt. Hope; father, Timothy Myers and step-mother, Katina Myers of Hoxie; brothers, Caelan Yohn of Mt. Hope, Kendrick Yohn of Hutchinson, T.J. Myers of Hoxie, Eric Shive of Hutchinson; sisters, Maelynn Myers and Eva Myers, both of Hoxie; grandparents, Vicki Palmatier of Hutchinson, DeWayne ‘Buck’ Palmatier of Haven, Judy Myers of Burlington, Iowa; uncles, Doug Myers and wife Michelle of Hutchinson, Terry Palmatier and wife Shelli of Haven; numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents.  He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Rex Myers.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2018, at Journey@Yoder Activity Center, 3605 E. Longview Rd, Haven, KS 67543, with Pastor Jason Purdy officiating. Burial will follow at Laurel Cemetery, Haven, Kansas. The family asks that you wear a ‘Brett’ shirt or your favorite athletic team attire. Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at Journey@Yoder Activity Center, Haven. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Council of Reno County or to the Brett Myers Fund, both in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Norma Jean Kern | 1926 – 2018 |

Norma Jean Kern, 91, of Hutchinson, passed away April 6, 2018. She was born April 26, 1926, in Cherokee, Oklahoma, the daughter of Clement and Hilda (Hebel) Ford.

She graduated from St. Teresa High School in 1943. Her memberships included: Holy Cross Altar Society, St. Cecilia Circle, PEO HP Chapter, Harvest House, and Youth Friends – volunteering at Wiley Elementary School with the ‘Read with Me’ program. Norma loved reading to the small children. She worked as a homemaker, with the ultimate multi-tasking and never-ending job of being a mom and wife raising seven children.
On June 12, 1943, she married Raymond George Kern at St. Teresa Catholic Church. It was a happy marriage of 66 years until Raymond’s death May 28, 2009.

She is survived by: her children, Jerry (Nance) of Mason, OH, Barbara Pearson (J. R.) of Grove, OK, Linda Swank of Lawrence, Pat Banker ( Sam) of Ozawkie, Ron of Hutchinson, Mary Beth Hartwell of Austin, TX, and Connie Kimpler (Robert) of Wichita; sisters, Ruth Ann Spitzer (Dr. Jerry), Kathy Young ( Dr. Larry); sister-in-law, Debbie Ford, all of Hutchinson; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; six nieces; and 11 nephews. Norma was preceded in death by: her parents; beloved husband, Raymond; brother, Ben Ford; sister, Mary Louise Ford; and the many family and friends she had been missing.

Parish Rosary will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at Church of the Holy Cross, 2631 Independence Rd., Hutchinson, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with Father Bob Pinninti officiating. Private inurnment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may sign her memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson. Jean Ann “Jeanie” Hardy Armour | 1940 – 2018 |

Jean Ann Hardy Armour, surrounded by family and friends, was promoted by her Savior Jesus Christ on the afternoon of April 5, 2018. She is survived by her two brothers and their wives Jim Hardy (Marilyn) and Warren Hardy (Sherri).  She was preceded in death by her husband Tom Armour, her mother Rachel Kramer and father Joe Hardy.

Jeanie was born September 25, 1940 in Hutchinson, Kansas. She graduated Hutchinson High School in 1958 and Hutchinson Community College in 1960.  Jeanie earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas in 1962 and a master’s degree in Library Science from Emporia State in 1964.

Jeanie taught English and debate in Bonner Springs and Topeka, Kansas. She also served as head librarian of Topeka High School.  Jeanie and Tom Armour, high school classmates, reconnected in 1999 and married three years later.  They lived in Yakutat, Alaska, where Tom was city manager.  Upon his retirement in 2000, they moved back to Hutchinson.  In retirement, Jeanie volunteered at the Hutchinson Library.  Jeanie was a life-long member of Grace Episcopal Church.

Memorials may be made to the Hutchinson Soup Kitchen or the Hutchinson Animal Shelter in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, Kansas 67501

Vernon ‘Smokey’ Martin | 1934 – 2018 |

Vernon ‘Smokey’ Martin, 83, of Hutchinson, passed away at Prairie Sunset Home, Pretty Prairie, on Thursday, April 5, 2018. He was born September 3, 1934, the son of J.C. and Elizabeth (Nagel) Martin.

Smokey graduated from Mullinville High School in 1953. He served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1957. Smokey was a machinist for Northern Natural Gas Company, retiring after 45 years of service.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Sue Heidel Martin; and brother, Elton Martin.

Survivors include: brother, Kenneth Martin of Broken Arrow, OK; sister, Norma Baysdolpher of Mesa, AZ; two daughters, Garnetta Glissman and husband Dan of Catoosa, OK, Johnna Alexander of El Lago, TX; one son, Todd Martin and wife Jeannine of Seabrook, SC; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two stepchildren, Ray Johnston of Winfield, and Michele Morris of Kingman and their families.

Cremation has taken place. At Smokey’s request, there will be no public services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Prairie Sunset Home, Pretty Prairie, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Lester W. Boger | 1922 – 2018 |

Lester Boger, 95, formerly of Hutchinson, died on April 4, 2018, at The Healthcare Resort of Topeka, and left the world a better place because he had been here. He was born May 4, 1922, in Barton County, KS, the son of Paul and Emelia (Stettinger) Boger.

He farmed in Barton County from 1940-1953, before moving to Hutchinson where he worked at Cessna Fluid Power for over 30 years, retiring as department foreman. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Hutchinson, and had lived at Collier Assisted Living at Wesley Towers, Hutchinson, from 2008 to 2015.

On February 23, 1953, Lester married Elizabeth A. ‘Betty’ Korkish in Hutchinson. She died November 23, 2006.

He is survived by: son, Dale Boger (Karen) of LaJolla, CA; daughter, Marlene Showalter (Stan Martindell) of Topeka; and grandson, Thomas Showalter (Abby Beuerlein) of Olathe.

Lester was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Elmer; and son-in-law, Fred Showalter.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1017 N. Washington, Hutchinson. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family to greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Delores Ann Orem | 1935 – 2018 |

Delores Ann Orem, 83, died Saturday, March 31, 2018, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community, Buhler. She was born February 19, 1935, in Cleveland, Oklahoma, to Ottis and Allene (Guthrie) Green.

Delores graduated from Burrton High School in 1953. She lived in Burrton and Buhler for most of her life. Delores worked for Dillons and Lowen Sign Company, but was most proud of her job as a homemaker. She was an avid bowler, member of Lily Dale EHU, First Southern Baptist Church, and enjoyed spending time with family at their cabin on Kanopolis Lake.

On September 5, 1953, she married Charles Orem in Burrton. He died April 25, 2001.
Delores is survived by: sons, Rick Orem and wife Karie of Hutchinson, Doug Orem and wife Sonja of Wichita; daughter, Cheri Schrader of Halstead; brother, Gerald Green and wife Sharon of Haven; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by: her parents; sister, Judy Smith; and son-in-law, Don Schrader. Cremation has taken place.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community Chapel, 400 S. Buhler Road, Buhler, with Chaplain Lenora Duerksen officiating. Inurnment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

Memorials may be made to Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
