HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Reno Masonic Lodge #124 presented a $1,000 check to Dr. Marilyn Graham, executive director of First Call for Help, Monday.
Russ Silvey and Leo Ritter of the lodge presented the check.
The Masonic Lodge does fundraising throughout the year in order to give back to the community.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The defense came up big Saturday.
Unfortunately, the defense that came up big in Gowans Stadium Saturday afternoon did not belong to Hutchinson.
For most of the season, the Blue Dragons have thrived on a stellar defense that has scored six times against opponents. Monty Montgomery scored three times in back-to-back games from the linebacker position.
This time, however, the visiting Triton defense made an impact early. Jackson Martens got Iowa Central on the board with 3:38 left in the first quarter when he returned a Hutchinson fumble 20 yards on a strip-six. Less than five minutes of playing time later, Martens’ teammate Justin Nutof came up with a similar play.
Hutchinson’s offense was threatening to tie the game. Arian Strong ran a quarterback sneak on fourth down inside the Triton 10 for a chance at goal-to-go. Strong pushed the pile up the middle and took the ball down to the 1. In the scuffle, the ball came loose. Justin Nutof picked the ball up for the Tritons at the 1 yard line and scampered 99 yards for a touchdown.
Iowa Central’s first two scores of the game came defensively. Triton QB Blake Dever closed out the first half with a pair of touchdown passes. With 7:45 left in the second, he hit Carlton Todd from 23 yards out. With just 48 seconds left before the break, he spotted Rashad Witty from 8 yards out.
Up 27-0, Iowa Central’s kicker Luke Noonan had his extra-point attempt blocked. De’Mareyae Givens scooped up the ball and took it back to pay dirt for two points.
At the break, Iowa Central led Hutchinson 27-2. The Tritons amassed 12 first downs in the first half, compared to the Dragons five.
It was a first half of miscues for Hutchinson. The two defensive scores dug a hole the Dragons could not escape. Late in the first quarter, a short Triton kickoff was recovered by Iowa Central. Hutchinson also elected to take the wind in the first half after Iowa Central won the toss. Therefore, the Tritons received the ball to begin each half. A Mason Schucker interception and failed sneak attempt on fourth down prevented the Dragon offense from moving the ball in the second quarter. Hutchinson was 0 for 3 on fourth down attempts.
Hutchinson was without leading rusher Dezmon Jackson. Jonathan White started the game at running back for the Blue Dragons and finished with 76 yards. Montai Ellis got six carries late and managed 49 yards. Jackson’s absence was felt. For the first time in five games, the Dragons did not register a 100-yard rusher.
Dever kept his hot hand in the cold conditions when he found Rashad Witty from 9 yards out. The Tritons built a 31-point advantage before Khalil McClain came in at quarterback and completed a five-play drive with a 1 yard TD run for Hutchinson.
The momentum was short lived as Dever started a connection with WR Manny Logan-Greene. Dever found Logan-Greene twice on scoring plays in the second half. The first came from 19 yards away after the McClain touchdown. The second was a 93-yard touchdown to open the fourth quarter.
Dever finished the day with five touchdowns and 237 yards through the air. He was picked off twice.
Hutchinson used four different quarterbacks on the day. Schucker finished 4 of 12 for 37 yards with an interception. Nolan Arrington did not attempt a pass, but managed 11 yards on the ground. Arian Strong ran for 12 yards from the quarterback position. Khalil McClain completed four passes on eight attempts and had one intercepted. McClain threw for negative-2 yards, but ran for 92 on nine carries. He led Hutchinson in rushing.
McClain scored twice on the ground.
Iowa Central’s 93-yard touchdown pass to start the fourth quarter was not its last. The Tritons scored one last time with 8:57 left when Jatoviay Hill dashed 32 yards for a score.

Iowa Central racked up 440 yards of offense and possessed the ball for 35 minutes, 14 seconds. The Tritons rushed for 198 yards against a Dragon defense that was allowing only 69 yards on the ground a game.
Eighty-six percent of Hutchinson’s offense came on the ground. All but 35 yards of Hutchinson’s total offense came in the ground game. The Blue Dragons turned the ball over five times.
Iowa Central (7-4) has now won five games straight. Head coach Jesse Montalto is now 3-0 in his last three appearances in Hutchinson. In his previous two visits, he coached the Ellsworth Panthers.
No. 8 Hutchinson (8-3, 6-1) will now wait for an opponent in the Salt City Bowl on Dec. 1 in Gowans Stadium.
POSTGAME WITH RION RHOADES:
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — No. 8 Hutchinson Community College is fresh off its last-second loss to No. 2 Garden City last week 24-21.
The Broncbusters put together a 14-play game-winning drive and scored with just 18 seconds left last Saturday.
The Blue Dragons (8-2, 6-1) will face a hot Iowa Central team coached by Jesse Montalto. The Tritons are now 6-4 thanks to a four-game winning streak.
Montalto was the mastermind behind the greatest comeback to ever go against the Blue Dragons. Montalto spent four seasons at Ellsworth. His Panthers defeated the Blue Dragons in each of their last two meetings in Hutchinson. On Halloween in 2015, Montalto’s Panthers erased a 35-0 deficit by scoring 42 points in the second half to defeat the Blue Dragons.
Coach Rhoades got the better of Montalto the last time these two coaches met. In muddy conditions in Ellsworth, Iowa, last season, coach Rhoades performed a victory slide with his team to celebrate the 25-13 victory that put the Dragons at 6-1 with four games left on the schedule. Hutchinson then dropped three games straight.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — No. 2 Garden City (8-0, 5-0) rolls into Gowans Stadium Saturday to take on the No. 4 Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragons (8-1, 6-0).
Hutchinson beat Dodge City two weeks ago 45-7 on the road. The Dragons enjoyed a bye last week.
Garden City blew past the Red Ravens in Coffeyville last week 51-15. Broncbuster running back Dedrick Mills had three touchdowns in the first half alone. Mills finished with four TDs and 262 yards on the ground.
Mills is joined by Charles West in the Garden City backfield. Both have over 1,000 yards rushing this season. The Broncbuster rushing attack accounts for nearly 77 percent of Garden City’s offense.

BUHLER, Kan. — Midwest Ford of Hutchinson teamed up with Buhler for the Drive 4 UR School event last Friday.
For every test drive taken in one of Midwest’s 12 available Ford vehicles, General Manager Brian Bobo donated money to the Buhler Booster Club.
The event raised nearly $6,550 for Buhler.
DODGE CITY, Kan. — No. 4 Hutchinson Community College (7-1, 5-0) travels to Dodge City to take on the Conquistadors (3-5, 1-3) at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Blue Dragons defeated Coffeyville last week 24-14 thanks to solid defense. Monty Montgomery had three of the team’s nine sacks and provided Hutchinson with a pick-six. For his efforts, Montgomery was named the league’s defensive player of the week.
The Conquistadors come back home after a nightmarish road trip to Fort Dodge, Iowa. Dodge City lost 58-7 last week to the Tritons of Iowa Central.

COFFEYVILLE, Kan. — No. 4 Hutchinson Community College (6-1, 4-0) travels to Coffeyville (2-4, 1-3) for a 7 p.m. kickoff Saturday.
The Blue Dragons are fresh off Sebastian Garcia’s last-second 37-yard field goal that propelled Hutchinson to a 16-13 victory over Highland last week. Blue Dragon head coach Rion Rhoades was ejected from that game with just over three minutes remaining. Rhoades has been suspended for the matchup with Coffeyville. Blue Dragon Athletic Director Josh Gooch will serve as the interim head coach.
The Red Ravens have not been home since Sept. 8. Coffeyville is on a three-game losing streak.

Saturday night is homecoming for the Red Ravens.
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — In cloudy, rainy conditions Saturday afternoon at Gowans Stadium, Sebastian Garcia kicked the first game-winner of his career — at any level.
With just 15 seconds left, Garcia connected on a 37-yard field goal to give the No. 5 Blue Dragons (6-1, 4-0) a 16-13 victory over the No. 13 Highland Scotties (4-2, 2-2).
“I just took it back to basics,” Garcia said of the pressure kick:
It was the first game-winner of his career, not only as a Blue Dragon, but since he’s been playing the game of football. Garcia said the next-closest thing in his career was a kick he made just before the half of one game.
Garcia misfired from 49 yards out earlier in the game. “I just pushed it right,” he said. Garcia placed sole blame on himself.
An extra-point attempt midway through the third quarter also went awry for the Blue Dragons. The snap from Dylan Chesterman slipped through the grasp of Marquis Whitmire. Those two missed opportunities in the game were not on Garcia’s mind when lining up the game-winner:
To say the events leading up to Garcia’s game-winner were bizarre would be an understatement.
Ahead 13-6 with 3:22 left in the contest, Hutchinson’s defense forced Highland into a 4th-and-long. While the Scotties sent their punt team onto the field to give the ball back to the Blue Dragons, a flag flew from the sideline.
It was the second unsportsmanlike penalty of the game on Dragon head coach Rion Rhoades. Not only did the 15-yard penalty give Highland new life with a first down, but Rhoades was ejected from the contest. He had to leave the facility and his team with just over three minutes to play.
Highland made the most of its new opportunity. Kevin Brown broke off a 64-yard run to put the Scotties 2 yards away from pay dirt. After a timeout, quarterback Avery McCall punched the ball into the end zone. With 1:55 left, the game was tied at 13.
After the game, Rhoades was very apologetic for what happened:
When players in the Jayhawk Conference receive two unsportsmanlike penalties in a game, they miss playing time. Players are usually suspended one full game.
What does that mean for coach Rion Rhoades when the Blue Dragons travel to Coffeyville next week?
“I don’t know,” Rhoades said. “I’ve never been in this situation so I really don’t have any idea how it works.”
Rhoades apologized to his team after the game.
He had high praise for the way his team responded:
For the second game in a row, and the third time this season, Dezmon Jackson carried the ball for over 100 yards. He finished the day with 167 yards on 26 touches. Jackson scored once.
Jonathan White also carried for a TD and 59 yards. On the game-winning drive, White left the game with an ankle injury. Coach Rhoades said White had been battling a sprained ankle. On the play, he sprained his good ankle.
Jackson and White have been carrying the load for a Blue Dragon rushing attack that is missing sophomore transfer Erin Collins. Collins rushed for over 100 yards in each of his first two games as a Dragon, then sustained an injury in pregame before Hutchinson faced then-No. 2 Iowa Western.
Rhoades says the outlook is good for Collins to return at some point this season:

Hutchinson finished with 341 total yards of offense to Highland’s 190. The Dragon defense held the Scotties to 94 yards on the ground and 96 yards through the air.
The Dragons stopped the Scotties on a key goal-line play late in the game.
Mason Schucker finished 11 of 25 passing for 128 yards. He was pressured constantly in the pocket and fumbled three times. He lost two of those fumbles.
Highland’s Kevin Brown finished with 92 yards on the ground. Sixty-four of those yards came on the game-tying drive when Brown galloped to the Blue Dragon 2.
Hutchinson is on the road next week to face Coffeyville (2-4, 1-3). The Red Ravens dropped a one-point decision to Dodge City Saturday.
