PITTSBURG, Kan. (AP) — A Missouri man is facing charges in two states after he allegedly committed a string of vehicle thefts that ended when OnStar disabled one of the automobiles.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department says officers were called early Sunday to a vehicle theft in rural Crawford County. A truck that previously was stolen from Frontenac was found at that address but another truck was missing. The second truck was found when deputies were dispatched to another home, where a Chevy Malibu equipped with OnStar technology had missing.

The Pittsburg Morning Sun reports OnStar was contacted and located the Chevy in Ashbury, Missouri. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office found the vehicle, with the suspect inside, after OnStar disabled it.

Deputies arrested 20-year-old Kyle Boulais from Butler, Missouri. He is jailed in Jasper County.

The sheriff’s office booking report does not list a bond for him

SALINE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating two church burglaries.

Sometime between 9a.m. November 6 and November 11, suspects took a Verdin Adagio 240-watt amp and wireless microphone transmitter worth an estimated $3,050 from Sacred Heart Cathedral, 118, North 9th Street in Salina according to Police Captain Paul Forrester.

In addition, between November 9 and early November 10, someone forced or left open a door at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church, 304 West Grand Avenue in Salina, and took $1900.00 worth of audio equipment, according to Forrester.

The Staff reported a laptop, powermixer, guitar, several wired and wireless microphones and a cassette player missing.

BARBER COUNTY — A second earthquake this month shook Kansas Monday afternoon. The quake that measured a magnitude 2.5 was centered approximately 19 miles northwest of Kiowa, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Just after 2:30 a.m. November 9, a magnitude 2.9 quake and was centered approximately 17 miles southeast of Caldwell, according to the USGS.

There are no reports of damage or injury from Monday’s quake.

SEDGWICK COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a shooting.

Just before 10p.m. Sunday, police responded to report of a shooting in the 800 Block of south Topeka in Wichita, according to officer Paul Cruz.

Officers found a 42-year-old man with a single gunshot wound to his calf.  The man told police a friend was at his apartment and dropped a handgun on the floor that discharged and hit him in the leg.

The victim was treated at a local hospital and released. Cruz released no additional details.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — The Kansas Secretary of State’s office says new Kansas driver’s licenses could not be scanned on electronic poll books across the state during last week’s local elections.

Elections Director Bryan Caskey said Monday that did not keep anyone from voting because poll workers manually type in names if scanners can’t read the bar codes. He noted other acceptable voter IDs for elections, such as passports, can’t be scanned.

Kansas began issuing new driver’s licenses that are Real ID compliant in August.

Caskey says the problem first surfaced during early advanced voting, but there wasn’t time to fix the software issue before the election. Electronic poll book vendors are now updating software.

The Transportation Security Administration says it has not had issues with Real ID licenses at Kansas airport security checkpoints.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Prosecutors say a man has been acquitted in a deadly shooting at a Wichita apartment.

The Sedgwick County district attorney’s office says in a statement that Kirby Lewis was found not guilty last week in the Dec. 29 death of 28-year-old Robert Young.

Officers found Young in a hallway at Woodgate Apartments. He’d been shot multiple times.

Wichita police say a fight started while Young was drinking with Lewis and his roommate at their apartment. Young and Lewis’ roommate left the apartment. They returned a short time later and hit the door of the apartment. Police says that is when Lewis grabbed his firearm, opened the front door and fired several shots at Young.

Lewis initially told officers that Young tried to rob him.

MEADE COUNTY—  Law enforcement authorities continue to investigate a fatal car crash that took the life of a toddler in Meade County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported just after 1a.m. Sunday, a 2001 Chevy Suburban was westbound on Meade county road V one mile west of Kansas 23.

The driver lost control around a curve. The vehicle traveled into the south ditch and rolled.

Two-year-old Felipe James Tomas of Friona, TX., was transported to the Meade District Hospital where he died. The toddler was in a car seat and not buckled up, according to the KHP.

Authorities have not identified who was driving and on Monday are still interviewing those involved, according to Trooper Michael Racy.

Two others in the SUV Isabel Solis-Gomex, 23 and Vicente Tomas-Tino, 34, both of Friona, TX, were also transported to the hospital in Meade. They also were not wearing seat belts, according to the KHP.

SALINE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect for burglary.

Just after 10a.m. Sunday, deputies were dispatched to Smoky Valley Concrete, Inc., 1700 West State Street in Salina after a passerby reported seeing a shirtless man with a crowbar attempting to break into the building, according to Saline County Sheriff’s Capt. Jim Hughes/

Upon arrival, deputies located a suspect identified as 27-year-old Zachariah Behling, inside the business.

Behling allegedly used the crowbar to break a window to gain access to the building. Once inside, he used a hammer to damage a fishing boat and a company vehicle. Deputies say he also stole a pair of gloves and a key.

He was booked into the Saline County Jail for burglary, criminal damage to property and theft. Behling has previous convictions on drug charges in Riley County, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.

SEDGWICK COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating an aggravated stabbing.

Just after 2a.m. Monday, police were dispatched to report of a stabbing at a home in the 2700 Block of South Hillside in Wichita, according to officer Paul Cruz.  A 24-year-old victim told police a 25-year-old suspect, the man’s brother, stabbed him in the chest.

The victim was transported to an area hospital and is listed in critical condition, according to Cruz.

Police did not make an arrest or release the name of the victim as the investigation continues.
