Forest “Dick” Foster | 1940 – 2018 |

Forest ‘Dick’ Foster, 78, of Hutchinson, died July 10, 2018, at his home. He was born March 7, 1940, in Hutchinson, to Forest L. and Hazel E. (Fall) Foster.

Dick graduated from Langdon High School and Hutchinson Community College. He worked at Cessna/Eaton for over 42 years, retiring as a Grade 1 Tool and Die Machinist. Dick had excellent skills in building prototypes that would later become tools. He led weekly A.A. meetings in the Reno County Jail and all three Hutchinson Correctional Facilities (HCF) for 29 years and was named Volunteer of the Year at HCF in 2007. Dick and his wife Sharon owned and operated Happy Hooves Goat Ranch, of which 16 kids are still living.

On October 24, 1992, he married Sharon (Covalt) Stout in Great Bend. She survives.

Other survivors include: son, Larry Foster (JuLee) of Lawton, OK; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Judy Zwierzychowski of Cunningham; stepson, Doyle Stout of Great Bend; and one nephew. He was preceded in death by: his parents; daughter, Rebecca Yingling; niece, Jody Zwierzychowski; and first wife, Patty (Welch) Cruz.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Luke Helmuth officiating. Private family inurnment will take place in Lerado Cemetery. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today thought Saturday at Elliott Mortuary.

Memorial donations are suggested to Encompass Hospice or Dick Foster Memorial Fund, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Garrett F. Reihl | 1928 – 2018 |

U.S. Veteran

Garrett Frederick Reihl, 90, died Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.  He was born February 3, 1928, in New Jersey, to Alfred Henry and Mary (Ott) Reihl.

Garrett graduated from mechanics school and served in the United States Army.  He was a house mover for over 40 years.

On April 1, 1966, he married Iva Hahn in Hutchinson.  They shared 52 years of marriage.

Garrett is survived by:  wife, Iva of Hutchinson; children, David Edgington (Star) of Colorado Springs, CO, Patti Warnken of Hutchinson, Cheryl Weischel (Jack), Fred Reihl, both of Wilmington, Delaware; Cindy Wiard of Hutchinson, Keith Reihl of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by:  his parents; first wife, Janet; two sisters; and son-in-law, Gene Wiard.

Cremation has taken place.  Per Garrett’s wishes, there will be no service.  Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS  67501 is in charge of arrangement.

Donna L. Suiter | 1934 – 2018 |

Donna L. Suiter, 84, of Hutchinson, died July 10, 2018, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community, Buhler. She was born February 24, 1934, the daughter of Clive and Hazel (Cool) DeBusk.

She was a graduate of Macksville High School and a member of Park Place Christian Church. Donna had been a clerk for Sears Catalog Department.

On July 23, 1952, she married Richard D. Suiter in Macksville. He died July 20, 2004. Survivors include: sons, Kenneth and wife Karen of Plano, TX, Dale and wife Jackie of Divide, CO, and Ron of Wichita; grandchildren, Dean Suiter, Benjamin Appel and Samantha Appel.  She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Monica Preston and Betty Seibert.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2018, at Park Place Christian Church, 2600 N. Adams, with Pastor David Dubovich presiding. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with family present from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson. Family will be present from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.

Memorial gifts may be made to the church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Gloria Ann Snyder | 1940 – 2018 |

Gloria Ann (Surber) Snyder, 78, passed away on July 8, 2018, at her home after nearly a two year battle with ovarian cancer.

On May 20, 1940, Gloria was born to Marion and Velma Surber in Madison, Kansas. She grew up in Madison and graduated from Madison High School in 1958.

Following high school, she attended Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in El Dorado and graduated in 1961. In El Dorado, she met her now husband, Ralph, of 58 years. They married February 6, 1960, in Miami, Oklahoma. Gloria was a nurse in the operating room at Morton County Hospital, then a stay at home mother, and later worked at Stutzman’s Greenhouse in Hutchinson, Kansas.

For the last 23 years, she resided in the community of Yankee Run at Kanopolis Lake. Throughout her life she enjoyed fishing, gardening, working on crafts, baking, collecting cardinals, spending time with family and friends, loving numerous animals, and being known as ‘The Lady at the Lake.’

Gloria is survived by: her husband, Ralph Snyder of Geneseo; daughter, Cindy Ketchum and husband, Tim; son, Jeff Snyder; grandchildren, McKayla Ketchum, and Catrina Maskil and husband, Steve; great-grandchildren, Cienna, and Carson Maskil, all of Hutchinson; sisters, Linda Moffett and husband, Scott, of Norman, Oklahoma, and Gayle Wiecken and husband, Larry, of Topeka; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Celebration of Life will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2018, at Elliott Mortuary with Reverend Mike Goolsby officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Thursday with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or Kindred Hospice of McPherson, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Loretta Teresa Forshee | 1919 – 2018 |

Loretta T. Forshee, 98, of Great Bend, formerly of Hutchinson, died Saturday, July 7, 2018, surrounded by her family and the loving staff at River Bend Assisted Living, Great Bend.

Loretta was the eighth out of 11 children, born September 23, 1919, in Chase, on the family farm, to Matthew H. and Mary P. (Barry) Malone.

Loretta attended first through tenth grades in Chase and then Marymount Catholic Girls School in Salina her junior and senior years. She then attended Marymount College, majoring in music and voice.

Loretta was a member of the St. Mary’s Altar Society of St. Mary’s, Holy Cross Altar Society of Hutchinson, Pinochle Club at St. Mary’s, EHU of Rice County, and NARRF of Reno County. She enjoyed crafts, flowers, cooking and doing ‘her housework’. She loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be missed.

Her future husband, Lytle ‘Ike’ Forshee was visiting family in Chase, saw Loretta with some friends and declared ‘I am going to marry that gal!’ Ike and Loretta were married November 27, 1941, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chase, by her cousin, Monsignor Quentin Malone. Ike died April 6, 2000.

From this union were born: children, Ron Forshee (Pat) of Wichita, John Forshee (Jean) of Enid, Oklahoma, Kent Forshee (Theresa) of Salina, Elaine Straub (Rod) of Great Bend; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 10 siblings.

Parish Rosary will be 7 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2018, at Church of the Holy Cross, 2631 Independence Road, Hutchinson, with Father Michael Kerschen officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2018, at Church of the Holy Cross, with Father Michael Kerschen officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.

Memorials may be made to River Bend Assisted Living, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
