Bettie Jo Wagler | 1925 – 2019 |

Bettie Jo Wagler, 94, of Lenexa, Kansas, formerly of Hutchinson, went home to her Lord on September 13, 2019. Bettie was born April 13, 1925, in DeKalb, Texas, to William and Mary (Telford) Butler. She grew up on her father’s cattle ranch surrounded by her sisters, Emma and Ouida, countless animals, and a lot of joy. While attending the University of Texas, Bettie met Albert Amos ‘Al’ Wagler, a young airman. They were married in 1945 in DeKalb and lived for a time at the Moore Air Base. Bettie and Al moved to Hutchinson in late 1945. They welcomed William Ernest ‘Bill’in 1947 and Mary Camille ‘Camille’ in 1949.

Bettie taught first and second grade at Roosevelt Elementary School for over 25 years. She and Al were lifelong members of Trinity United Methodist Church, and found great friendships, peace, and support there through the years. Bettie loved playing tennis and played well into her 80′s, always while looking fashionable. She also volunteered at the Hutchinson Hospital information desk for over 20 years. Bettie loved watching KU and UT sports, but not nearly as much as she loved her family and seeing her grandkids grow up and start their own families. She always looked sharp, her hair was beautiful to the end, and she was a smart, kind, and giving woman. While she lived the last year of her life in Lenexa, Hutchinson was always her home.

Bettie is survived by: son, Bill of Lenexa, Kansas; grandson, Lucas and wife Jennifer and their children, Carter, Presley, and Holden; grandson, Logan and wife Jennifer and their children, Brooklyn, Landon and Keaton, all of Lenexa, Kansas; and granddaughter, MacKenzie Harvison and husband Scott and their children, Hank, Holly, and Weston of Overland Park, Kansas.

Bettie was preceded in death by: her husband, Al; daughter, Camille; daughter-in- law, Sue; and her sisters and parents.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2019, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1602 N. Main, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Dr. Kim Biery officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Elliott Mortuary. The casket will remain closed.

Memorial contributions may be made to the V Foundation or a cancer research organization of your choice, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Bettie believed in Jesus, she believed in the Resurrection, and she believed that there is victory in death. She is home, she is with loved ones, and she is happy.
