David Price McQuilliam, 75, died September 5, 2019, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.  He was born July 29, 1944, in Hutchinson, to Loyd L. and Dorothy Irene (Scheele) McQuilliam.

David graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1963.  He worked at Sandy’s (a former fast-food restaurant that was located on North Main in Hutchinson), as an assistant manager.  David retired from Eaton (formerly Cessna), as the quality control manager for the scrap portions, after 42 years of service. He enjoyed the outdoors, and after retiring he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Linda. David was a life-long member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hutchinson.

On October 3, 1965, he married Linda Phelps at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hutchinson.

David is survived by:  his wife of almost 54 years, Linda of Hutchinson; children, Dawn McKeown (Michael) of Bossier City, Louisiana, Kevin McQuilliam (Dorethea) of Manhattan; grandchildren, James McKeown (Krystyna), Dannielle Nutt (James), Ethan McQuilliam; four great-grandchildren, (with the fifth one due in January); siblings, Nancy Talbott (Bill), Bob McQuilliam (Sue), Judy Anderson (Phil), Suzanne Oglesby; sister-in-law, Kathy Trapp (Bruce); and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by:  his parents; brother, Lloyd McQuilliam; and brothers-in-law, Jim Costigan and Jim Oglesby.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 9, 2019, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 407 E. 12th, Hutchinson, with Pastors Quentin Nuttmann and Henry Blickhahn officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson.  Friends may call from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.  The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 8, 2019, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS  67501.

Lois Faye Thayer, 83, died September 3, 2019, at Reflection Living, Hutchinson. She was born March 8, 1936, in Vinita, OK, the daughter of Ralph W. and Rose M. (Bunch) Walters. Lois graduated from Arlington High School in 1954 and worked as a secretary for Eastwood Church of Christ. She loved people and was a wonderful hostess with a great sense of humor. Above all, Lois desired to set a Christ-like example in all she did. She loved sharing Christ with people and started and led many Bible study groups.

In April 1956, Lois married Dirk W. Slavenburg of the Hague, Netherlands, in Arlington. Together they raised four children.

She is survived by: daughters, Rayne Dean (Terry) and Ruby Slavenburg, both of Hutchinson; son, Dirk W. Slavenburg II (Sharon), Des Moines, IA; grandchildren, Jeremy Dean (Beth), Wright City, MO, Jennifer L. Mace, Hutchinson; great-grandchildren, Logan, Austin, Kylan, Ryker, Eliana, Holland; sisters, Ruby Ducate, Lawrence, Bernadean ‘Bunny’ Egbert (Eddy), Kimberling City, MO, Sarah Smith (Dan), Hutchinson; brother, Ray Walters (Sandy), Independence, MO; family-of-the-heart, Annette Raya, Hutchinson, Jarod, Rachel, Julen, and Noah Wannamaker, Hutchinson, Judy Henry (Hank), Hutchinson, Trudy Zimmerman (Bill), Nickerson, Cathy Schmitt (Gary), Wichita; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents and son, Jeffrey Gene Slavenburg.

Cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life will be 10 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2019, at Eastwood Church of Christ, 2500 N. Plum, with Wayne DeWindt and Steve Sears officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.

Vickie S. Markhart, 59, passed away Monday, September 2, 2019 at Pleasant View Home, Inman, KS.

Vickie was born November 4, 1959, in Hutchinson, KS, the daughter of Kenneth W. and Wilma (Drake) Symonds. She graduated from Nickerson High School, class of 1977. Vickie was married to Les Markhart and later divorced. She had worked in retail sales. Vickie was a member of Crosspoint Church of Hutchinson.

She was preceded in death by her father Kenneth Symonds and grandparents, Lloyd and Dorthy Drake and Orville and Dorothy Symonds.

Vickie is survived by her mother, Wilma Symonds of Inman; two sisters, Debbie (Gregg) DeGarmo and Kimmie (Anthony) Beltran all of Hutchinson; seven nieces and nephews and a dozen and one on the way great nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Vickie’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 6, 2019 at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson, KS, with Pastor Andy Addis officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present to greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Memorials may be given to the Vickie S. Markhart Memorial Fund and can be sent in care of the funeral chapel.

Jay Dee ‘J. D.’ Detter, 74, of Alma, AR, passed away September 1, 2019, at Fort Smith, AR.  He was born February 15, 1945, the second child of Harold and Evelyn (Newcom) Detter.

Jay attended Nickerson schools, graduating from Nickerson High School in 1963.  He also attended Kansas State University, Emporia State Univesity, and Wichita State, graduating from Emporia State in 1968.  Shortly after graduating college, Jay was drafted and served in the United States Army until 1970.  Jay was a teacher and coach, teaching science (chemistry and physics) in Topeka, Cheney, Concordia, and Kingman, along with coaching various sports.  He was a member of the Alma United Methodist Church in Alma, AR, and enjoyed singing in church choirs.

On August 18, 1967, he married Sandra Mosier in Sterling.

Jay is survived by:  his wife of 52 years, Sandra of Alma, AR; daughter, Terri (David) Rimovsky of Van Buren, AR; son, Corey Detter of Urbandale, IA; granddaughters, Isabel and Elyse Rimovsky of Van Buren, AR; and brothers, Roger Detter of Scottsdale, AZ, and Steve Detter of Cedar Hill, MO.

Jay was preceded in death by: his parents and sister, Ruth Detter Cox.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 5, 2019, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Robbie Fall officiating.  Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.  Friends may call from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2019, at Elliott Chapel.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to a local or national Parkinson’s disease or cancer organization (to further research) or to a Parkinson or cancer support group, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Virginia Ruth (Gilger) Hedge, 79, of Hutchinson, died September 1, 2019, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.  She was born May 29, 1940, in Logan, KS, to Clarence George and Lela Lucille (Tasker) Gilger.

Virginia was a 1957 graduate of Miltonvale Wesleyan College and a 1959 graduate of Brown-Mackie College, Salina.  She was employed by Midwest Iron and Metal Company Inc. as the Business Office Manager and retired after 19 years of service.  Virginia was a member of the Elmdale Community Center Crochet Angels group that crochets blankets, lap robes, scarves, booties, and mittens that are given away to young and old.

She is survived by:  brother, Don (Laura) Gilger, Emporia; sons, Troy (Cheryl) Hedge, Royse City, TX, Ernest (Tina) Hedge, Alvin, TX; grandchildren, Joshua Hedge, Killeen, TX, Jeremy (Amy) Hedge, Hutchinson, Ryan Hedge, Steilacoom, WA, Paul Hedge, Fort Collins, CO, and Kristen Hedge, Green Bay, WI; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents.

Cremation has taken place.  Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Monday, September 9, 2019, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson.  Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.  Family will greet friends from 2 p.m. to service time on Monday.

Barbara Colleen ‘Barb’ Rohr, 81, died Friday, August 31, 2019, at her home. She was born October 15, 1937, in Hanston, the daughter of Loren W. and A. Mildred (Hickman) Salmans.  Barb graduated from Hanston High School in 1955 and attended Brown Mackie College in Salina. She retired as a checker for Safeway in Hutchinson and Wichita after 23 years.  Barb played basketball in high school and loved the sport all her life and she also bowled for most of her adult life. She was of the Methodist faith.

On February 28, 1956, Barb married Matt P. Rohr in Hanston. He died September 14, 1983.

Survivors include: children, Melinda Bemiss, Hutchinson, Gayla Lauber (Johnny), Hutchinson, Sonia Rohr, Hutchinson, Kyle Rohr (Desiree), Perry, Kelly Rohr (Kimberly), Hutchinson; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Gary Salmans (Joy), Spearville, Joyce Boor (Leo), Great Bend, Marge Kirby (Jim), Larned, Nolan Salmans (Janice), Hanston, Janine Clark (Jerry), Hutchinson, Arlyn Salmans (Sandy), Cimarron; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; granddaughter, Andrea Bemiss; grandsons, Cody Rohr, Terry Lynn; and son-in-law, Gary Bemiss.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2019, at Elliott Chapel with Pastor Mike Salmans officiating.  Private family burial will take place at a later date.
