Stella Ann Joseph | 1957 – 2019 |

Stella Ann Joseph, 61, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home on August 30, 2019, surrounded by her loved ones.  She was born November 26, 1957, in Clinton, OK, the daughter of James and Irene (Fletcher) Howlingcrane.  Stella graduated from Corn Bible Academy, Corn, OK, and attended Hesston College.  She worked as a CNA/MedAide at Pleasant View Home, Inman, for many years.

Stella is survived by: children, Christopher Joseph, Victoria Joseph, Danielle Joseph, Johnathan Joseph; grandchildren, Alexandra Nava, Zain Joseph, Kale Hemphill, all of Hutchinson; parents, Layman and Dorothy Slagell, Hydro, OK; siblings, Georgia Emhoolah (James), Oklahoma City, OK, Clyde Fletcher (Cindi), Okmulgee, OK, Rita Oliver (Edward), Charlevoix, MI, Dale Slagell (Rosita), Weatherford, OK, Leann Goosen (Kim), Corn, OK, Gaylon Slagell (Carin), The Woodlands, TX, Geneva Penner (Hal), Weatherford, OK, Della Kelly, Corn, OK; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her birth parents.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2019, at Elliott Chapel.  Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to Kindred Hospice, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Alberta Bobbie McKibben | 2019 – 2019 |

Alberta ‘Bobbie’ McKibben, 92, died August 30, 2019, at Hester Care Center.  She was born June 7, 1927, at the family farm house in Nickerson, to Melvin and Leona Mae Thompson.

Alberta graduated from Nickerson High School, Adela Hale Business College, Hutchinson Community College, and Sterling College.  She was the valedictorian for her graduating class at Nickerson High School and Sterling College.  Alberta also received both her bachelor and master degrees.  She taught fifth grade for 30 years at Graber Elementary School.  Alberta was a member of DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), Delta Kappa Gamma, and DAC (Daughters of the American Colonists). She enjoyed gardening and volunteering at the Hutchinson Public Library.  Alberta was a member of First Baptist Church, Hutchinson.

Alberta is survived by:  children, Kathy Carey and husband Duane, Mark McKibben and wife Beth, Steven McKibben, Marcia McKibben, all of Hutchinson; sister, Melva ‘Colleen’ Stockstill and husband Fred of Wichita; grandchildren, Aaron Carey, Lindsay Simmons and husband Brett, Sarah Lindsey, Margaret ‘Maggie’ McKibben, Melissa Klug and husband Billy, Craig McKibben; and great-grandchildren, Elayne, Bridge, Calliway, Cora, and Calvin.

She was preceded in death by:  her parents; infant sister, Doris Thompson; and great-granddaughter, Josie.

Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2019, at Hilltop Cemetery, Raymond, Kansas, with Pastor Tim Adrian officiating.  Friends may call from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary.  The casket will remain closed.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dillon Nature Center or Friends of the Hutchinson Public Library, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Ricky B. Switzer | 1967 – 2019 |

Ricky B. Switzer, 51, died August 28, 2019, at Ascension Via-Christi St. Francis. He was born November 29, 1967, in Sterling, to Larry and Virginia (Seitz) Switzer.

Ricky graduated from Nickerson High School in 1987 and from Salina Vo-Tech College in the HVAC and Auto Body programs.  He was a self-employed HVAC electrician. Ricky attended Maranatha Mennonite Church.  He enjoyed rodeoing and encouraging family, friends, and neighbors to connect with each other.

On June 6, 2011, he married Sarah Wilson in Hutchinson.

Ricky is survived by:  wife, Sarah; sons, Grady, Matt, and Chase; daughter, Sara (Jeff); grandchildren, River and Finnley; sisters, Elizabeth Skellenger (Bill), Trina Combs (Denny); and nephews, Jason and Luke.

He was preceded in death by:  a son, Gage, and his parents, Larry and Virginia.

Cremation has taken place.  Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at Maranatha Mennonite Church, Hutchinson, with Pastor Paul Nisly officiating.  Friends may sign the book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at Elliott Mortuary. Memorials may be made to the Ricky Switzer Memorial Fund, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS  67501.

Donna Dee Plank | 1944 – 2019 |

Donna D. Plank, 74, formerly of Hutchinson, died August 29, 2019, at Bethel House, Wichita.  She was born November 6, 1944, in Lyons, to Elden Carlos and Alberta Irene (Taylor) Griffee.

Donna graduated from Ensign High School in 1962 and Dodge City Community College in 1964.  She was a secretary for Mitchell Chapel United Methodist Church and First Presbyterian Church, both of Hutchinson.  Donna enjoyed line dancing, bowling, reading, and singing, especially in the church choir.  Her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren.   Donna was a member of Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.

On August 23, 1973, she married David LeRoy Plank in Miami, OK.  He died February 18, 2010.

Donna is survived by: sons, Sam Plank (Leslie) of Wichita, Bill Plank, Carl Plank, both of Hutchinson; sisters, Eldora Jones of El Centro, CA, Roberta Young of Pond Creek, OK;  granddaughters, Katie Duval (Ryan) of Tulsa, OK, Karissa Creech (Michael) of Miami, OK, Lily and Lainey Plank of Wichita; grandson, Tyler Plank of Miami, OK; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by:  her parents and great-granddaughter, Hope Mary Plank.

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2019, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5905 W. 4th Ave, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Richard Brooks officiating.  The family will greet friends Sunday, September 1, 2019, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Elliott Chapel.  Friends may sign the book from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS  67501.

Carolyn Ann Carrington | 1934 – 2019 |

Carolyn Ann Carrington, 85, died Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at Diversicare of Hutchinson.  She was born July 25, 1934, in Whitewater, the daughter of Lloyd and Elva (Koby) Dow.  Carolyn was a 1952 graduate of Haven High School and with her husband, Jim, was co-owner of J & C Antiques and Auction Service for many years.

On March 15, 1969, she married James N. ‘Jim’ Carrington in Hutchinson. They shared 50 years of marriage. He survives.

Also surviving are: daughters, Terri Haines (Mike), Topeka, Theresa Carrington (James Johnson), Nashville, TN, Laura Carrington, Knoxville, TN, sons, Doug Trent (Jusada), Belo Horizonte, Brazil, James A. Carrington, Colorado; grandchildren, Chad Haines (Jameia), Overland Park, Branon Haines (girlfriend, Tosh Niesen), Longmont, CO, Jared Haines (Sandy), Topeka, Caitlyn Little, Nashua, NH; four great-grandchildren; and brother, Don Dow (Wanda), Haven.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and step-mother, Mina (Kincaid) Dow.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2019, at Elliott Chapel.  Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday thru Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

Richard “Griff” Griffin | 1960 – 2019 |

U.S. Veteran

Richard ‘Griff’ Griffin, 59, of Hutchinson, died August 26, 2019, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born February 17, 1960, in Hutchinson, to Harold Stewart and Peggy Jean (Winkler) Griffin, Jr.

Griff was a 1978 graduate of Hutchinson High School. He proudly served as a paratrooper in the 26th Pathfinder Platoon of the 89th Infantry Division of the United States Army. Griff was employed by Haven Unified School District #312 as a middle school football coach and custodian at Haven Elementary School. He was a member of Full Gospel Church, Hutchinson, and enjoyed serving in the praise band.

Griff is survived by: children, René, Tony (financée, Victoria Williams) and Nathan Griffin of Euless, TX; siblings, David (Edith) Griffin, Anthony (Mary) Duncan, Janet Duncan, Terry Duncan and Sandy (Brad) Norris, all of Hutchinson, and Tracy Dougan of Burrton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Stewart and Peggy Jean Griffin, Jr. and foster parents, Howard Leroy and Iva Melvene Duncan.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2019, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Betty Pinkston officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Children’s Miracle Network, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
