Brian Lee Matlack, 65, of Burrton, passed away on August 17, 2019, doing what he loved, camping in the Colorado mountains. He was born on September 11, 1953, to Wayne and Elizabeth Matlack.

Brian graduated from Burrton High School in 1972. He entered the Air Force in 1973 and served as a Titan II Missile Mechanic until his honorable discharge as Sergeant in 1977. He was a long term employee of Stinger.

Brian was a published author of two books and his hobbies included songwriting, singing, playing guitar, woodworking, traveling, and his greatest joy was spoiling his grandkids.

Brian married the love of his life, Debra Matlack (Sisco), on April 3, 1972.

He is survived by: his wife of 47 years; son, Don Matlack; son, Wayne Matlack and wife Heather; granddaughter, Kaylene Matlack; grandson, Troy Matlack; brother, Larry Matlack and wife Betty; brother, Bill Matlack; sister, Crystal Koehn and husband Tony; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and sibling-in-laws.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; son, Dan Matlack; brother, Stan Matlack and wife, Vel; sister-in-law, Melissa Matlack; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jack and Mary Tate.

Cremation has taken place at Crippin’s Funeral Home in Montrose, Colorado. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 11303 E Longview Rd, Burrton, KS 67020.

Paul Tolbert, 80, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2019 at his home in Hutchinson, KS.

Paul was born August 12, 1939 in Lookout, AR, the son of Andrew and Izora (Burks) Tolbert. On October 15, 1959 he married Alfreda Young in Stuttgart, AR, to this union they were blessed with four children, Paul, Neater, Mack and Don. Paul worked in maintenance at Cessna- Eaton where he retired after 40 years. He was also a member of Church of God in Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and six brothers and sisters.

Paul is survived by his wife Frieda Tolbert; sons, Paul Tolbert, Mack Tolbert and Don Tolbert; a daughter Neater Macabee; brothers, Glenn and Luther Tolbert; a sister, Pauline Nelson; and five grandchildren, Devin Tolbert, Andrew Tolbert, Austin Tolbert, Sophia Tolbert and Boaz Tolbert.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave., Hutchinson, KS, with Reverend William Green and Reverend Charles Oliver officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 30, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with family present to greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel. Burial will take place in Fairlawn Cemetery, Hutchinson, KS. Memorials may be given to the Paul J. Tolbert Memorial Fund and can be sent in care of the funeral chapel.

Vickie Renee Elsey, 58, died Sunday, August 25, 2019, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born July 6, 1961, in Garden City, the daughter of Chester W. ‘Bud’ and Erma J. (Giesaking) Marker.

Vickie graduated from Garden City High School in 1979 and attended Oklahoma Panhandle State University and Oklahoma State University.  She worked as General Office Administrator for NCA, Hutchinson. Vickie enjoyed playing softball, riding horses, and shopping.  Her constant companions were her dogs, ‘Spinner’ and ‘Scooter’.

On May 12, 1989, Vickie married Virgil E. Elsey in Garden City. He survives.

Also surviving are: sister, Diana Lyons (Ralph), Hutchinson; brothers, Jeff Marker (LeeAnn), Hutchinson, John Marker (Michelle), Haslet, TX; nieces and nephews, Ty Lyons, Columbus, OH, Tara Lyons, Hutchinson, Luke Marker (Melanie), Fort Collins, CO, Loghan Currier (Dylan) Wichita, Jake Marker (Alexa), Wichita, Lauren Marker, Monroe, LA; Joshua Marker, Monroe, LA; several great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Rodney Marker.

Cremation has taken place.  Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 30, 2019, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 407 E. 12^th Ave., Hutchinson, with Pastor Henry Blickhahn officiating.  Burial will follow in Eastside Cemetery.  Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday thru Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.

William ‘Dee’ Mackey, 95, went to be with Jesus on Friday, August 23, 2019.  He was born July 28, 1924, in Hutchinson, the son of Jesse and Nellie (Shoberg) Mackey.

Dee worked at his father’s Skelly Gas Station during his school years.  He was the president of his senior class at Hutchinson High School.  In 1941, at age 17, he joined the United States Army and was a member of the 10^th Mountain Division and trained in Vail, CO, to ski.  Dee served in WWII in the artillery, in campaigns in Europe, mostly Italy.  After the war, he continued to keep in touch over the years with the 10^th Mountain Division members.  He returned home to Hutchinson to work in his family Skelly gas station.  Dee met and married Letha Bateman Haag in 1956.  He worked later in the corporate level of Skelly Oil, procuring land and plans for new stations.  Dee moved to Wichita, Tulsa, OK, and Kansas City, working for Skelly, eventually retiring and returning to Hutchinson.  As a child, he was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Hutchinson, and later attended First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, with his wife.

He is survived by:  a beloved niece, Deetta Mackey, that visited him every day as he lived his last years at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson; children, Frederick (Trudy) Haag of Wichita, Diane Weirauch Haag of Wichita, Linda Haag Archer of Lyons; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dee was preceded in death by:  his wife of 62 years, Letha Bateman Haag Mackey; his parents; siblings, Charles (Jean) Mackey, Gay (Lillian) Mackey, Thelma (Paul) Buskirk, Betty (Herschel) Kincaid, Donna Smith (Buss) Byer (Al); son, Gerald Haag; and son-in-law, Laurence Archer.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Angela DeVore officiating.  Military honors will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.  Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary.

Our Dad, Uncle Dee, Papa Dee and Grandpa was dearly loved and will be missed, but we are comforted in knowing that he is with his loving wife, Letha, in heaven.

Richard P. ‘Mac’ McReynolds, Sr., 80, formerly of Castleton, died August 21, 2019, at Prairie Sunset Home, Pretty Prairie.  He was born October 7, 1938, in Osborne County to Floyd L. and Loma Bertha (Wimmer) McReynolds.

Richard served in the United States Army as a heavy equipment mechanic for four years. He was employed at Sonoco (formerly American Packaging Company and Republic Paperboard) for over 40 years.  Richard enjoyed camping, watching court television shows and tinkering on cars.  He enjoyed many things in his lifetime and could make just about anything, but his greatest joy was being with and watching the activities of his grandchildren and the companionship of his furry little friend, Roxie.

On June 6, 1957, he married Edith Marie Skellenger at Camp Bussac in France.  They shared over 62 years of marriage.

He is survived by:  wife, Edith McReynolds, Castleton; daughter, Corrine Isaacks, Hutchinson; sons, Richard (Rebecca) McReynolds, Jr., Lerado, André (Laura) McReynolds, Hutchinson, George (Debbie) McReynolds, Turon, Jeffery (Stephanie) McReynolds, Pretty Prairie, Patrick (Belinda) McReynolds, Hutchinson; daughter, Wilma McReynolds, Castleton; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; sisters, Millie Hoskinson, Ruth (Sam) Cox, Cleta (Jim) Cox; and brother, Ed McReynolds.

Richard was preceded in death by:  his parents; granddaughter, Gwen McReynolds; sister, Margaret French; and brother, Charles McReynolds.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2019, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Darrel Grubbs officiating.  Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.  Military honors will be conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.  Friends may call from 1 until 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 5 until 7 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

Barbara Ann Reid, 71, of Hutchinson, died August 20, 2019.  She was born May 16, 1948, in Tribune, to Leonard C. and M. LaVerne (Baum) Kiefer.

Barbara was a 1967 graduate of Wichita County High School and attended Hutchinson Community College.  She drove a school bus for middle school and special needs kids in the Buhler Unified School District #313 for 36 years and made wedding cakes.  Barbara was a member of Parks Presbyterian Church, Leoti.  Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest source of pride and joy.

She is survived by:  daughter, Radona (Josh Watkins) Reid, Hutchinson; sisters, Bonita (Lynn) Macey, San Jose, CA, Delberta (Stanley) Pfeifer, Topeka, Karla Vaughan, Lawrence; grandchildren, Mika Reid, Gavin Reid, Canon Cavanaugh and Keegun Beeler, all of Hutchinson; great-grandchildren, Ashlynn, Kaybrie and Braxton Belote, all of Hutchinson; niece, Stephanie Macey, San Jose, CA; and nephew, Joshua (Anna) Macey, Chico, CA.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents.

Cremation has taken place.  Celebration of Life and graveside service will be announced at a later date.  Elliott Mortuary and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Melva Jolene Cross, 78, of Hutchinson, died August 15, 2019, at her home. She was born December 10, 1940, to John J. and Bertha (Kliewer) Warkentin.

Jolene graduated from Inman High School in 1958.  After graduating from Salt City Business College in 1959, she worked in the Hutchinson office of Kansas Power and Light.

On December 22, 1961, she married Ronald Franklin Cross, in Hutchinson. They shared almost 60 years of marriage before his death on December 16, 2018.

In 1964, Jolene and Ron purchased Burnett’s News located at 304 North Main.  They changed the name to Crossroads Bookstore Inc. in 1966.  Over the next 32 years, Jolene was instrumental in making Crossroads a fixture of downtown Hutchinson and a literary gathering place for many Hutchinson residents.  She retired from Crossroads in 1998.  After retirement, Jolene was President of the Westborough Townhouse Association.

Jolene is survived by: son, John R. and wife Janise Cross; granddaughter, Annamarie Cross; grandson, Patrick Cross, all of Middletown, New Jersey; sister, Darlene Seibel and husband Wallace Seibel, Wichita Kansas; sister-in-law, Carolyn Warkentin, North Liberty, Iowa; nieces, Karen Ewart, Casper, Wyoming, Carla Brewster, Dublin, California, Kim Warkentin, Madison, Wisconsin; nephews, James Warkentin, North Liberty, Iowa, Steven Seibel, Corvallis, Oregon, and Gregory Seibel, Lawrence Kansas.

She was preceded in death by: her husband and parents; brothers, Leroy James Warkentin and John W. Warkentin; sister, Glennis B. ‘Nan’ Nemcovsky; and infant sister, Norma Jean Warkentin.

Cremation has taken place. A private family service will take place at a later date.

Robert L. (Bob) Allen, 60, passed away August 21, 2109 after an extended stay in the hospital, battling with health complications.

Bob was born May 12, 1959 in Hutchinson, KS the son of Cecil and Katherine (Meine) Allen. He graduated from Nickerson High School and was self-employed as an HAZMAT and demolition specialist. He also ran antique shops in the Hutchinson area.

He is preceded in death by a niece, Amanda M. Engle.

Bob is survived by his parents, Cecil and Katherine Allen of South Hutchinson; sisters, Jerri Zarnowski and Christine (James) Brummer; nieces, Sarah Thompson and Hannah Brummer; nephew, Matthew Brummer and five great nieces and nephews.

There will be no public visitation as cremation was chosen.

A Celebration of Life will be held 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at the Salt City Cowboy Church with Pastor Montie McFerrin officiating. A lunch will be provided after the service.
