Ronald Gene Haag, 87, of Hutchinson, died May 5, 2019, at his home. He was born October 9, 1931, in Larned, to Ermon Dennis and Juanita (Keasling) Haag.

Ronald graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1951, Emporia State Teachers College in 1962, and Wichita State University in 1975, with a Master’s Degree in Education. He served in the United States Air Force from 1953-1955. Ronald enjoyed airplanes, attending air shows, and antique tractors and cars. For over 30 years, he taught fifth grade at Ellinwood, Union Valley, and Prosperity Schools. Ronald was a member of Plevna Community Bible Church.

On May 16, 1964, he married Milbry Ruth Bridgeman in South Hutchinson. They shared almost 55 years of marriage.

Ronald is survived by: wife, Milbry of Hutchinson; sons, Timothy Haag (Davina) of McPherson, John Haag (Melissa) of Wichita; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; one brother; two sisters; and daughter, Kerri Sue Haag-Pellecchia.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor David E. Green officiating. Burial will follow in Abbyville Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the McConnell Air Force Base Honor Guard. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

David James Anderson, 84, of Arlington, Kansas passed away on May 4, 2019 surrounded by his family.

David was born December 2, 1934 in Thayer, Kansas, the son of Wesley and Alberta Anderson. He was baptized at the Church of the Brethren, Thayer. He graduated from Thayer High School in 1952. At the age of 18, David contracted the polio virus and spent an extended period of time at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita and fought hard to overcome it.

David married Leona White and to this union a son, Wayne Anderson, was born. They later divorced.

On April 7, 1972, David married his love, Judy Campbell Bailey, in Chanute, Kansas. With their marriage, David lovingly gained six children (two boys and four girls) which he welcomed with open arms. He loved them as his own from the very beginning. The couple was additionally blessed when their son, Dana James Anderson, was born and completed their family.

David spent his lifetime providing for his large family by working as a welder, a machinist and a mechanic. He worked for years at Alcorn in Chanute, Cremary in Erie, Wilson Machine in Hutchinson and Mid-States metal in Stafford until, he and wife, Judy, started their family business of D & J Repair in Arlington. David loved KU basketball and could be found religiously watching their games on TV. His passion for horses resulted in him owning and raising many mares and foals over the years. Sunday afternoons would find him and Judy on the back of his motorcycle headed out for a ride to enjoy the Kansas scenery. Every June, as the wheat ripened in the fields, he would run a combine as it brought him immense joy! With a head full of silver locks, even at 84 years old, he wore his hair in a flat top cut just as he always had!

David is survived by his wife Judy, of the home; children, Wayne Anderson (Jeannie) of Thayer, Rebecca Colbert of South Hutchinson, William Bailey III of Arlington, Judi Foster (Scott) of Abbyville, JoeDee Bailey of Hutchinson, Janet Huitt (Randy) of Pratt, Jennifer Perry (Joe) of Arkansas City, and Dana Anderson (Belinda) of Hutchinson; 18 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; and his sisters Irene Baldwin of Erie and Mary Lou Dooley of Humboldt.

Violet Elaine Veatch, 85, of Inman, Kansas (formerly of Hill City, Kansas) passed away peacefully May 4, 2019 at Pleasant View Home. She was born July 24, 1933 to George and Thelma Moore of Morland, Kansas. Elaine grew up on the family farm north of Morland and attended Morland Grade and High Schools.

In 1949 Elaine married Harold Naiman. Two sons were born to this union: Danny Harold and Lane Sheridan. Years later they were divorced. Following the divorce, Elaine went back to school to pursue a nursing degree. She graduated from Dodge City Junior College and then Fort Hays State with a degree in nursing. She was an R.N. in various hospitals until her retirement. Elaine married Gerrell Veatch in 1975. They enjoyed many good years together until Gerrell died in 2001.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; her sister Shirley Wilcox; her brother Eldon Moore; and her sons: Lane Naiman and Danny Naiman. Survivors include her guardian Linda Naiman of Hutchinson; grandson Josh and wife Jan Naiman of Hutchinson; great granddaughter Julia Naiman of Hutchinson and niece Kandy and husband Darrell Worcester of Hill City.

LeRoy Otis Durst, 77, of Hutchinson, died May 5, 2019. He was born October 2, 1941, in Morrowville, Kansas, to Sylvester Vaughn and Ila Rose (Hanshaw) Durst.

LeRoy graduated from Morrowville Rural High School in 1959. He owned and operated Durst Service Company for over 25 years, plumbing propane and anhydrous ammonia. LeRoy loved vehicles and was of the Methodist faith.

On May 13, 1989, he married the love of his life, Lois Francine Hill, in Hutchinson. They shared almost 30 years of marriage.

LeRoy is survived by: wife, Lois; children, Terry Durst (Kim), Sherene Hutchinson; stepson, Ty Winsky; grandchildren, Hannah and Zach Hutchinson, Jaleigh and Kodi Durst; and siblings, LaVonne Knox and Les Durst (Karen).

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Leone Eisenhauer.

Leslie Fred Bishop, 86, of Hutchinson, died May 3, 2019, at his home. He was born October 10, 1932, in Kansas City, Kansas.

Fred graduated from Bishop Lillis High School in Kansas City, Missouri and attended the University of Kansas. He served in the United States Marine Corps.

Fred married Mary Ellen Mueller in Westport, Missouri. Together, they shared over 60 years of marriage and owned Bishop Interiors.

Fred is survived by: wife, Mary Ellen of Hutchinson; daughter, Shawn Cox (Jerry) of Shawnee; three grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bill.

Parish Rosary will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at St. Teresa Catholic Church, 211 E. 5th, Hutchinson. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2019, at St. Teresa Catholic Church, with Father Michael J. Maybrier officiating. Military honors will be conducted at the church by the United States Marine Corps. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary. Maudie Lucille Jewell Brack, 95, died May 3, 2019, at Buhler Sunshine Home, Buhler. She was born June 4, 1923, in Hutchinson, to Albert Harmon and Zetta Mae (Cosat) Frye.

Maudie was a longtime hairdresser and worked at several shops in Hutchinson. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, Hutchinson, and the Moose Lodge.

Maudie married Alfred Fay Jewell and they divorced. He preceded her in death. On February 4, 1977, she married Everett E. Brack, in Hutchinson, and he died March 31, 1996. Maudie is survived by: son, Chet Jewell, Highlands Ranch, CO; sister, Ora Henry, Hutchinson; stepson, Les Brack, Topeka; stepdaughter, Connie McNaul, Table Rock Lake, MO; grandsons, Scott Jewell, Hutchinson, Sean Jewell and Tony Jewell, Denver, CO; granddaughter, Tina Jewell, Denver, CO; step-grandsons, James McNaul and Joe McNaul, Wichita, Matt Brack, Hutchinson; step-granddaughter, Jillian Ladd, Overland Park; 12 great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Carla Jewell, Hutchinson. She was preceded in death by: parents; husband, Everett; son, Larry; brothers, Bill, Burt and George Frye; sisters, Avis Anderson, Clara Ketchum, Nellie Neuenschwander, Faye Gibson and Peggy Phipps.

Frank Howell Cole Jr., 94, gave a last salute to his family and country as he marched from his earthly home to his eternal home, to be with his Savior in Heaven on Thursday, May 2, 2019. Frank, a retired Navy veteran, served his country for 25 years (1942-1967) during World War II, the Korean Conflict, and Vietnam War.

He was born on April 4, 1925, to Frank Cole Sr. and Lillian (Snyder) Cole in Brooklyn, New York. After graduating from Haare High School in New York City, he enlisted in the Navy, serving on battleships and PT cruisers.

Frank met his sweetheart, Marion (Warwick) Cole in Boston. They were married on April 30, 1946, in Greenwich, Connecticut, and enjoyed 72 years together. After the Navy, they lived in Minnesota and Arkansas, before settling down in Hutchinson for 30 years. Frank attended the Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church and Countryside Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening. Frank loved Jesus, family and his country.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, and loving wife, Marion. He is survived by: sons, Frank Cole Jr.(Connie), Stafford, Virginia, David Cole (Diane), Duck, North Carolina, Steve Cole (Linda), Alpharetta, Georgia; daughters, Ruth Phillips (Don), Pittsboro, North Carolina, and Becky Schmucker (Bryan), Inman; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Evelyn Cole Lewis , Reno, Nevada.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2019, at Elliott Mortuary, with Steve Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Buhler Municipal Cemetery East. Friends may sign the book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. The casket will remain closed.

Patricia Ann ‘Shorty’ Wolfe, 72, pf Pretty Prairie, died May 2, 2019, at her home. She was born July 26, 1946, in Coffeyville, the daughter of  Charles and Violet (Lee) Ryan. Shorty attended Hutchinson High School and worked mostly as an upholsterer, even doing custom work for Darryl Starbird, and later in life was a bull hauler. She also made crafts to sell and enjoyed fishing, cooking, sewing, “kanitting,” and “crocquetting.” Shorty was ornery and had a unique sense of humor.

She married Harlin Wilson in 1964 and they divorced in 1966. On September 17, 1966, Shorty married Michael D. Wolfe in Murdock. He died March 31, 1981. She married Paul Chinn in 1998. He died in 2017.

Surviving are: daughter, Viroqua Blakey, Pretty Prairie; sons, Wesley Wilson (Jeannie), Mobile, AL, Thomas Wilson (Karena), Cheyenne, WY; grandchildren, Rachel and Rich Ciapponi, Cortney and Chris Parker, Wyatt Wilson, Keith and Elizabeth Wilson, Trisha Wolfe and Zachery Fanning, Jacob and Josian Blakey, Rena Blakey, Chaz Wilson, Shelby Wilson; great-grandchildren, Demi, Azrael, Kayana, Kairi, Leonidas, Sarah, Anthony, Gabriel, Amara, Arianna, Carbon, Miracle, Mireecia, Chaz, Brittlynn; sisters, Nancy Peeler (Ben), Charleston, SC, Jeanne Lukenbach (Dean), Sedgwick, Diane Jenkins (Mike), Gaffney, SC; brother, Steven Ryan (Barbara), Gaffney, SC; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
