Retha Yoder, 58, passed away peacefully after a two-year battle with cancer, at her home on November 5, 2019.  She was born November 4, 1961, in LaGrange, Indiana, to Amos and Edna (Yoder) Wickey.

Retha was a homemaker, and especially enjoyed her gardening, flowers, and entertaining guests. Retha made many friends in her years of service in Mountain View Nursing Home, Virginia, and the Luz Y Esperanza Clinic in Paraguay. Her love for the Lord was often expressed through her joyful singing.

On March 12, 1994, she married Freeman Yoder from Kansas in Goshen, Indiana. After living in Indiana for eight years, Freeman and Retha moved to Kansas, on a farm east of Arlington.

Retha is survived by:  her husband, Freeman; daughter, Kayla; two sons, Douglas (fiancée, Tammy Headings), and Joshua, all of the home; four siblings, Barbara (Maynard) Miller, Millersburg, Indiana, Dave (Ruth) Wickey, LaGrange, Indiana, Suetta (David) Beachy, Middlebury, Indiana, Vernon (Yvette) Wickey, Hutchinson, Kansas; seven nieces; and six nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; stepmother, Viola (Mast) Wickey; sister, Irene; and one niece.Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 8, 2019, at Arlington Amish Mennonite Church, 15611 W. Arlington Road, Arlington.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 7, 2019, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Arlington Amish Mennonite Church, to benefit their ‘Local Needs Fund’, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS  67501.

Bernadine ‘Bernie’ M. Stroberg, 96, of Hutchinson, died November 4, 2019, at Hester Care Center, Hutchinson.  She was born February 14, 1923, in Brookings, OR, to James and Josephine  (Forge) Duffin.  In 1927, the family moved to Reno County.

Bernadine was a 1941 graduate of St. Teresa High School, Hutchinson.   She was employed on the assembly line at Cessna Aircraft Company during World War II.  Bernadine was actively involved in farming with her husband, Dean, and as an owner/operator of the family-owned business of Stroberg Equipment Co., Inc., from 1954 until her retirement in 2018.  She was a dedicated worker, but her most rewarding job-title was mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  Bernadine’s family and their activities were the center of her world.  She was a charter member of Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson.

On March 6, 1943, Bernadine married Dean Stroberg at St. Teresa Catholic Church, Hutchinson.  They shared over 54 years of marriage until his death on June 28, 1997.

She is survived by:  daughter, Jeanette Klosterman of Hutchinson; sons, Roger (Rita) Stroberg and David (Susan) Stroberg, all of Hutchinson; brother, Bill Duffin of Spring Hill; grandchildren, Matt (Shaila) Klosterman of Celina, TX, Andrea (Scott) Kitch of Manhattan, Scott (Gretchen) Stroberg of Hutchinson, and Amy (Cody) Rine of Hutchinson; great-grandchildren, Madison, Jack, Luke, and Easton Klosterman, Lewis Stroberg, Kinley Kitch, and a great-granddaughter due very soon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bernadine was preceded in death by:  her parents; husband, Dean Stroberg; brothers, Raymond, George, and Robert Duffin; sisters, Kay Blankenship, Edith Jones, Dorothy Thede, and Betty Rothweiler; and daughter-in-law, Sharon Stroberg.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2019, at Church of the Holy Cross, 2631 Independence Road, Hutchinson, with Father Aaron Spexarth officiating.  Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, 5905 W. 4^th, Hutchinson.  Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

Glenn ‘Gary’ Taylor Jr., 88, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2019, at Southwind Home, Pratt.  He was born July 24, 1931, in rural Reno County, the son of Glenn G. and Helen E. (Holt) Taylor Sr.  Gary graduated from Nickerson High School in 1949.  He served in the United States Air Force from 1952-1956 and was stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, TX, Chanute AFB, Rantoul, IL, and Lowry AFB, Denver, CO.  Gary worked as an aircraft mechanic, electrician, and gunner.  He received the Air Crewmember Badge, National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.  A highlight of Gary’s Air Force career was doing repairs on President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s aircraft during one of his trips across the country.

Gary was a resident of Kiowa County since coming from Barton County, where he was co-owner of Taylor Equipment Co.  He also farmed in Rice, Barton, and Kiowa counties for many years. Gary’s interests were his gas wells, which he claimed were just a hobby.  Gary also enjoyed flying his own Cessna airplane.  Even at an older age, Gary claimed he still could fly.

Survivors include: son, Mike Taylor (Nora), Greensburg; daughters, Sharla Taylor, Great Bend, Cindy Kirchgassner (Larry), Larned; brothers, Bernard Taylor (Rose), Ronald Taylor (Carolyn), both of Haviland; sister, Connie Hardage (Darrell), Lenexa; grandchildren, Chad Taylor (Andrea), Audra Boone (Jon), Rachel Rhoads (Dustin), Jared Kirchgassner (JaCole), 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; daughter, Debra; grandson, Jason Taylor; and brothers, Ancil and Stanley.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at Elliott Chapel, with Mark Dirks officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the McConnell Air Force Base Honor Guard. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary.  The family will greet friends prior to the service on Tuesday.

Doxie Anna Keller, 87, died on Friday November 1, 2019 at Thorne Rehabilitation, Wesley Towers in Hutchinson, KS.  She was born July 26, 1932, on a farm in Burlington, KS, the daughter of J. B and Bertha (Dill) Hoover.

Doxie spent many years teaching and was also a business owner. She loved refinishing antique furniture. Doxie was also the director of the Hutchinson Recreation Commission’s Leisure Arts Center. On September 2, 1955, Doxie married Lester Keller in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He precedes her in death.

Doxie is survived by her children, Kathy Carey, of Hutchinson, and Bruce Keller, of Jackson, WY.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester; sons, Gary Keller and Ross Keller; twin daughters, Sally Jo and Shelley Jo Keller.

A Memorial Service will be held on November 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Sherman, Hutchinson, KS, with Reverend John Chastain presiding.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, in care of the funeral home at 300 E. 30th Ave., Hutchinson, KS 67502.

Ray Anthony Rodriguez, 63, of Hutchinson, died November 1, 2019, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born December 17, 1955, in Hutchinson, to Crespin and Olivia (Hernandez) Rodriguez.

Ray graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1973. He was a machinist and union member for Eaton Corporation. Ray was a member of the Catholic faith.

On July 23, 1993, he married Rhonda Forney, in Hutchinson.

Ray is survived by: wife, Rhonda Rodriguez; daughter, Alisha (Henry) Mayberry; son, Hector (Aubrie) Rodriguez, all of Hutchinson; daughter, Danyelle Heidebrecht, Wichita; son, Eli (Haley) Heidebrecht , Inman, son, Sean Rodriguez, Chesterfield, MO; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; siblings, Crysta Rodriguez, Texas, Linda Cole, Sandra Roychoudhury, Cheryl Wilson, Crespin ‘Junior’ Rodriguez, Gerry Garcia, all of Hutchinson, Mary Oliver, and Rosie Coleman, both of Wichita; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harry Forney and Melody Forney, both of Hutchinson; brother-in-law, Matt (Bobbie) Forney, Andover;  and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law, Randy Wall.

Cremation has taken place.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday, November 8, 2019, at Hope Church, 1701 N. Main, Hutchinson, with Pastor Bobby Massey officiating. Burial will take place at a later time in Fairlawn Burial Park.
