Vera O’Neal, 89, of Hutchinson, died March 18, 2019, with her family by her side, at her daughter’s home in Wichita. She was born August 3, 1929, in Bucklin, to Willie A and Rosa Jane (Fulton) Squire.

Vera graduated from Syracuse High School, Hutchinson Community College, and Wichita State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She taught kindergarten for over 20 years at Partridge Grade School and Yoder Grade School. Vera was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, joining the church in 1957.

On December 11, 1948, she married Milton O’Neal. He died July 18, 1997, after they shared almost 50 years of marriage. Vera is survived by: children, Pam George (Darrel) of Blythewood, SC, Mike O’Neal (Pat) of Hutchinson, Pennie Epperson (Tim) of Wichita, Lori Douglas (Terry) of Rogers, AR; son-in-law, Andy Livermore; brother, Ron Squire; sister, Nell Lewis; 18 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her parents; daughter, Peggy Lynnette Livermore; and two siblings.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2019, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 518 E. 43rd, Hutchinson, with Bishop Joshua Sant officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.

Will Lucas ‘Bill’ Green Jr., 79, died March 19, 2019, at his home. He was born August 25, 1939, in Osceola, Missouri, the son of Will L. Sr. and Vivien L. (Simpson) Green. Bill graduated from Burdett High School, where he was a star athlete. He attended Hutchinson Community College on a football scholarship and majored in Liberal Arts.

Bill joined the United States Navy in 1958, where he served in the U.S. Naval Construction Battalion, better known as the Seabees. He graduated from Salt City Business College in 1962 and had his own car dealership, Green’s Classic Auto, Nickerson. Bill was a member of India Temple Shrine, Oklahoma City, OK, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68, and past-commander of Bob Campbell V.F.W. Post #1361.

On June 4, 1961, he married Cecilia ‘Joan’ Struthers in Larned and they had four children together. They later divorced. On August 26, 1980, Bill married Linda Kay Seckman. She died in 2016.

Also preceding him in death are: daughter, Darla Griffin; grandson, Russell Griffin; father, Will Green; mother, Vivien Borecky; stepfather, Roy Borecky; brothers, Eddy and Ronnie Borecky; and first wife, Joan Green.

Bill is survived by: sons, Reggie Green (Rae) and Darren Green (April), all of Nickerson; daughter, Denise Green (Keith McCubbin), Hutchinson; son-in-law, David Griffin (Rebecca), Nickerson; sister, Deloris Yarborough, Hutchinson; companion, Paula Catlin, Burdett; five grandchildren; three step grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and eight step great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at Elliott Chapel. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary. Betty Lou (Sill) Schechinger – age 90, of Hutchinson, Kansas in the early morning of
March 17, 2019, Betty was reunited with family and friends awaiting her in God’s
kingdom.

She was born March 30, 1928, the second child of George H. and Myrtle Mae (Cox)
Sill, of rural Odebolt, Iowa. She married Carl H. Schechinger on November 16, 1953, in
Carroll, Iowa. They celebrated their 65 th anniversary on November 16, 2018. Carl and
Betty lived in Omaha from November 1953 to June 1957. While there they co-owned
and operated the Ten Mile Inn, a restaurant, gas station and motel.

During her childhood and school years, Betty, and her family lived on a farm near
Ralston, Iowa. She graduated from Glidden High School in 1946. After high school, she
attended St. Anthony School of Nursing in Carroll, Iowa, graduating in 1949. Following
nurses training, Betty worked for Dr. A. Reas Anneberg, in Carroll, and the VA Hospital
in Omaha, Nebraska.

Betty’s 45-year nursing career included private-duty nursing; Kansas Neurological
Institute in Topeka, Ks; St. Anthony Hospital (Obstetrics) in Hays, Ks; and 19 years at
The Medical Center as a pediatric nurse for Dr. David Tweito in Hutchinson, Ks. She
retired from nursing in 1994.

Betty dearly loved gardening, fishing, camping, trying new recipes, making Holiday
treats, such as rosettes and divinity. While in Colby, she also rescued many unwanted
farm animals. Betty never hesitated to assist neighbors in need and was affectionately
recognized by many community members, who knew her as children. She modeled
compassion, honesty, friendship, morality and a committed work ethic. Betty was a
parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church, in Hutchinson, Kansas for 45 years.
Survivors include her husband, Carl H. Schechinger, of the home; four daughters,
Mary Smith and husband, Bernard, Hutchinson, KS; Lou Ann Geist and husband Gary,
Hays, KS; Peggy Potter and husband, Dick Ness City, KS; and Janet Mishler and
husband, Brian Arnold, KS; eight grandchildren: Lindsay Kubina and husband, Tony;
Aaron Smith; Emily Palmer and husband, Nick; Brandon Geist; Kelly Geist; Alison
Nuttle and husband, Jesse; Michelle Geist; Braden Mishler; six great-grandchildren, Gage
Smith; Gracie Palmer; Brinley Smith; Liam Nuttle; Lyla Nuttle; and Claire Kubina.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Russell Dean Sill.
A funeral mass celebrating Betty’s life will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, March 21,
2019, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 215 West 13 th Street, Hays, Kansas. Burial will be at
St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays, Kansas.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Thursday, at St. Joseph
Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to The Reins of Hope (therapeutic
horseback riding program) of Hutchinson, Kansas in care of Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of
Hays, 1919 East 22 nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.

Fontella L. Hunt, 98, of Hutchinson, died March 15, 2019, at Hester Care Center, Hutchinson. She was born November 1, 1920, at the family home, in Tulia, TX, to Burley Burton ‘B. B.’ and Amanda (Sanders) Burrow.

Fontella graduated from Tulia High School and Texas Tech with a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics. She was a fifth and sixth grade teacher in Tulia, and taught sixth grade at Faris Elementary School in Hutchinson. Fontella’s favorite subject to teach was math. She also enjoyed playing golf and various games. Fontella especially enjoyed playing bridge and Bingo, which were offered by Wesley Towers.

She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Fontella especially loved becoming a grandma to her four grandchildren, and spending as much time as she could with them. She was a member of PEO Chapter HP and a former member of First Baptist Church, Hutchinson.

On November 5, 1943, she married Walter H. Hunt in San Antonio, TX. They shared 70 years of marriage before his death January 6, 2014.

Fontella is survived by: daughters, Sharon Bauer and husband Kent of Wichita, Linda Showers and husband Glenn of Normangee, TX; sisters, Lola Sanderson of Lubbock, TX, Helen LaDuke of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren, Scott Showers and wife Beth Ann, Lucas Showers and wife Christy, David Ricksecker and wife Cara, Amy Tamimi and husband Al; and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her parents; two brothers; and four sisters.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2019, at Elliott Chapel, with grandson, Pastor Scott Showers officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, at Elliott Mortuary.
