Patricia L. ‘Pat’ (Swanson) Starr, 73, died March 8, 2019, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.  She was born June 20, 1945, in Salina, to Robert Lee and Lois Evelyn (Volak) Swanson and lovingly raised by Glen and Irene Carol Swanson.

Pat graduated from Council Grove High School.  She retired as the Director of Elmdale 50+ Center and was an active volunteer in the community.  She started the Prayer Bear Ministry at St. Teresa Catholic Church and Crochet Angels at Elmdale 50+ Center.  Pat enjoyed crocheting, reading, and making greeting cards.  Pat was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, Hutchinson.

Pat is survived by:  daughters, Lois Cox and husband Jaran of Manhattan, Deia Starr Rank and husband Jerry of Overland Park; grandchildren, Emily and Abby Cox and Quillan, Baylor, and Gable Rank; brother, Gary Swanson; sisters, Anita Eden, Patsy Menning; and numerous nieces and nephews, whom Pat loved dearly.  She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Gene Swanson.

Rosary will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 25, 2019, with her funeral to follow, both at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson.  Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery, Council Grove.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Patricia L. Clifford Conway Shipley, 84, died March 6, 2019, at Diversicare of Hutchinson. He was born June 19, 1934, in Hutchinson, to Wesley Roy Shipley and Catherine Lee (Cornelson) Shipley. Cliff served four years with the United States Navy from 1953 to 1957, in the Naval Construction Force, better known as Seabees. He was proud of his service and of the Seabees motto, “Can Do.”

After attending Hutchinson Community College, Cliff got a job as a surveyor with the City of Hutchinson, where he worked for his entire career. Cliff was proud of his surveying work for the city over the years. Many of the streets you drive on and neighborhoods you live in were laid out through his efforts. So when you drive down Severance between 30^th and the roundabout and many other places around town, think of Cliff. He would want you to know he helped build it.

On March 5, 1960, Cliff married the love of his life, Linda Frantz, in North Newton. They had two sons, Kenneth and Mark. Cliff and Linda were married for 57 years.

According to Cliff, when he met his wife, Linda, she told him that she wouldn’t marry him unless he would go to church. So he joined First Mennonite Church in Hutchinson, where he was an active member until his death.

Cliff loved his wife and sons. He enjoyed his dogs and the friends he made all over town.

Cliff is survived by: his sons, Mark Shipley, Kenneth Shipley; and brother-in-law, Vernon Frantz of Salina.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda and his parents.

Cremation has taken place.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2019, at First Mennonite Church, 52 Rambler Road, with Pastor Tonya Ramer Wenger officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church’s columbarium. Friends may sign his book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday at Elliott Mortuary. Melvina ‘Mel’ Miller, 65, died March 6, 2019.  She was married to Don I. Miller, Jr.

Cremation has taken place.

-Laurie K. Lunenschloss, age 93, of Madison, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019, at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was born on March 2, 1926, in Hutchinson, Kan., the daughter of Noah and May (Marshal) King.

Laurie graduated from the University of Kansas where she received her bachelor’s degree. Laurie worked in personnel and public relations for Hallmark Greeting Cards, in Kansas City, and as a corporate secretary of Air-Lec Industries recruiting and hiring artists.

She was married to John T. Lunenschloss, in 1965. she retired. Active in many civic organizations, Laurie was a former board president of the Visiting Nurse Service and served on the boards of the Attic Angel Association and the Madison Mustangs. An avid hunter and wildlife enthusiast along with her husband, she was an endowment and life member of the NRA, the Wisconsin Rifle and Pistol Association, the Dane County Conservation League and other hunting and sports organizations.

She is survived by her step-sons, Mike and Joe Lunenschloss; step-daughter, Pat (Jeff) Klossner; grandchildren, Erica Meier, Carrie Zander, James Zander, Meghan Zander, Chase Lunenschloss and Shane Lunenschloss; six great grandchildren; sister, Irena Lucas; and many nieces and nephews. Laurie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; and several brothers and sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 N. Sherman Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Friday March 15, 2019, with Mnsr. Daniel Ganshert and Fr. Robert Evenson con-celebrating. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Thursday, March 14, 2019, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Friday.

Freddie Herschel ‘Fred’ Clough, 90, died March 5, 2019, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.  He was born June 17, 1928, in Coffeyville, to Erwin and Sylvia Mildred (Barnard) Clough.

Fred graduated from Coffeyville High School in 1946 and Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia.  He served in the United States Army as a Sergeant First Class from 1950 to 1952.  Fred worked for Stephens-Hayes Clothing Store in Coffeyville, Biles & Long and Pegues, both in Hutchinson, retiring in 1993.  He was a former member and past-president of Hutchinson Kiwanis Club and served on the Salvation Army Board.  Fred volunteered for the Boy Scouts, and was a Boy Scouts Assistant District Commissioner for the Kanza Council.  He had attended First Baptist Church and Countryside Baptist Church, and was a current member of Grace Episcopal Church, all of Hutchinson.

On November 26, 1954, he married Joan M. Smith in Tulsa.  They shared almost 60 years of marriage before she died June 8, 2014.

Fred is survived by: children, Mark Clough and wife Christiana R. of Olathe, Karen Voller and husband Larry of Omaha, NE, Craig Clough of Newton; grandchildren, Sara, Zach, Melissa, Ginny, Kristin, Ryan, Anna; ten great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mary Clough of  Wichita, Margaret Hill of Houston; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Norman Phipps and wife Nila; brother, Hubert; sister, Marcia Stewart Hemman and husband Carlon; sister, Vicki ‘Brandy’ Collins; and brother-in-law, Henry Hill.

Cremation has taken place.  Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Grace Episcopal Church, 2 Hyde Park Drive, with the Reverend Dr. J. Ted Blakley and Father Larry Carver officiating.  Military honors will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.  Friends may sign the book from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary.  Private family inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Salvation Army or Hospice of Reno County, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS  67501.

John E. ‘Johnny’ Rush, 60, died at his home in Stafford. He was born July 6, 1958, in Winchester, to Marvin Ray and Janice (Coots) Rush.

He was a 1976 graduate of Davenport (Oklahoma) High School. Johnny was always working around printing presses, managing a crew when he last was able to work.

He is survived by: his mother of Davenport, Oklahoma; sister, Barbara Rush Sanders and husband Jack of Pike Road, AL; brother, Jeff and wife Darla of Stroud, Oklahoma; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Johnny was preceded in death by his father.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2019, at the Abbyville Community Center. Burial will be in the Abbyville Cemetery.
