PRATT – Three players hit better than .400 and redshirt freshman Kyann Eslick pounded down a
career-high 15 kills to lead the No. 20-ranked Hutchinson Community College volleyball team to a 3-0 Jayhawk West victory at Pratt on Monday night in the Beaverdome.
Just 48 hours after suffering its first Jayhawk West loss of the season on Saturday at Barton, Hutchinson dominated from both pins as the Blue Dragons rolled to a 25-12, 25-12, 25-14 victory. The Blue Dragons improve to 9-5 overall and 5-1 in the Jayhawk West. Hutchinson plays host to Butler at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Sports Arena.
The combination of Eslick, Page Hiebert and Nadine Cruz combined for 33 of Hutchinson’s 41 kills. Those three players hit a combined .417.
Eslick had 15 kills on 26 swings to hit .423. Cruz hit .412 with 10 kills. Hiebert hit .412 with eight kills.
Hutchinson out-hit Pratt 41-20 and out-blocked the Beavers 6-2.
Freshman setter Nicole Rutherford had a season-high 37 assists with eight digs, three kills and two ace serves.
Freshman Patricia Joseph had three solo blocks and one block assist to lead the Blue Dragons at the net. Sophomore libero Mine Cetinoz had 19 digs. Freshman Kelsey Mulligan had nine digs. Hiebert also had eight digs. Although she didn’t have an ace, freshman defensive specialist McKayla Apo had 23 total serves and the Dragons scored 17 points with her at the line.
