STERLING, Kan. — Freshman Maggie Lambert broke the 20-minute mark in her second collegiate cross country race to lead the Hutchinson Community College women’s cross country team to a second-place finish at the Sterling College Warrior Fest on Saturday at the Sterling Country Club.

Host Sterling College won the women’s team championship with 37 points. The Blue Dragons scored 55 points to finish second with three runners three runners in the Top 11 and four runners in the Top 14.

Lambert’s 5K time of 19 minutes, 54.5 seconds is the 23rd fastest time in HutchCC women’s cross country history. She was just under 14 seconds behind the winning pace of McPherson College’s Lauren Wankum, who ran a time of 19:40.8.

Sophomore Hannah Heidebrecht placed seventh individually on Saturday. She ran a time of 20:04.3. Sophomore Leah Nelson was 11th with a time of 20:52.2. Freshman Lindsay Sowersby played 14th overall in 21:22.5.

Freshman Crystal Lopez placed 24th in a time of 22:33.2. Freshman Vianny Sierra was 28th in a time of 23:09.2.

The Blue Dragons will next run at the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree on Sept. 24 in Stillwater, Okla.
