HUTCHINSON, Kan. — BNSF Railway continued to post strong numbers as it released its consolidated third quarter financial report.

The nation’s second-largest railroad reported net revenue of $5.9 billion, compared with $5.1 billion the same period last year. Operating expenses did increase during the three-month period from $3.2 billion to $3.8 billion. Total net income was $1.7 billion, compared with $1.2 billion in 2017.

Revenue from car shipments also increased across the board with all sectors showing gains.

Total freight revenue was $5.8 billion, compared with just under $5.1 billion one year ago.

BNSF operates about 10 trains per day in Hutchinson and is the third-largest property tax payer in Reno County.
