A gas line rupture late Monday on Waldron between 17th & 23rd cause a lot of headaches for law enforcement, fire crews and others.

They closed a number of roads in the area including Waldron between 17th & 23rd, both 23rd and 20th were closed from Lorraine east to Waldron.

The main building of the Hutchinson Clinic was evacuated as a result of the gas line rupture and everyone was moved to another clinic building at 2107 North Lorraine which is located to the northwest of the main building. Around 6:15 p-m, they finally started letting people in the that clinic building leave using 23rd and going west to Lorraine, while Waldron remained closed.

Although there were other areas where you could smell gas, such as the Cluster Apartments at 23rd & Lorraine, there were no other evacuations according to Emergency Management Director Bill Guy. That includes Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.

Kansas Gas Service was on scene along with Westar Energy to get the situation under control and were able to get the gas in the area shut off. They kept Waldron closed while they fixed the ruptured line.

Apparently work crews in the area hit the line causing the closing down of the area.
