NEWTON, Kan – A standoff with law enforcement in Newton ended peacefully Sunday.

The Emergency Response Team was called out early yesterday for a barricaded man in a residence in the 400 block of East 7th St in Newton.

That man was eventually taken into custody and all other people, including children were able to escape prior to that. The suspect had a handgun according to police and alcohol may have been a factor.

Officials had advised residents to avoid the area while law enforcement worked to resolve this situation.

No names were released from the incident.
