Centennial Road closed due to bridge damage

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Reno County Public Works announced that Centennial Road between Castleton Road and Irish Creek Road is closed to all through traffic. The area is located about four miles southeast of Arlington.

Reno County Public Works crews inspect a bridge that was damaged by an overweight vehicle. The increasing number of such incidents is causing projects that are already scheduled to be backed up while small spans like this are replaced.

Road and Bridge Superintendent Don Brittain says an overweight vehicle broke through the deck causing major damage to two pilings. Brittain says the bridge will have to be replaced.

The number of bridges being damaged by overweight vehicles is starting to become a problem according to Brittain. Replacing bridges like this is pushing scheduled projects further down the list.
