A milestone for one of the more unique small aircraft. “Cirrus,” the little airplane with the parachute, is celebrating its 5000th aircraft built. That plane, wearing commemorative colors and design, spent the day in Hutchinson Thursday at Wells Aircraft which operates 3 major service and training centers for the aircraft, the one in Hutchinson, the Downtown Airport in Kansas City, and a new facility being built at Branson West Airport, in Missouri.

The airplane, manufactured in Duluth Minnesota, comes in four models and is made mostly from composite material. It also features one of the more advanced avionics system manufactured in Kansas by Garmin.

The 5000th aircraft has already been sold, but Sandusky wouldn’t release the price. The plane goes for as much as 675-thousand dollars.
