HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson City Council gave its support to three proposals for new or expanded apartment complexes during a special meeting on Tuesday.

Last Wednesday, the housing commission approved proposals from Manske and Associates, Disability Supports and Commerce Gardens. Manske and Associates and Interfaith Housing want to renovate the old St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and turn it into 47 apartment units. Disability Supports of the Great Plains wants to build a new apartment complex near its campus on Waldron. The developer of Commerce Gardens wants to add four new buildings with 48 units to the apartment complex.

All three proposals include requests for tax credits from the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation.

No one was available to speak on behalf of Commerce Gardens, but Jay Manske, representing the St. Elizabeth’s project, and Rick Staab, president of Disability Supports of the Great Plains, both indicated they could start construction by the end of the year.
