City Council approves changes to Orchard Park pavilion and Fun Valley improvements

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson City Council gave approval to reallocate bonded funds earmarked for the Orchard Park pavilion during Tuesday’s meeting.

The change comes after two attempts to bid out a full-service pavilion failed to come in under budget. After much discussion, the council decided to go with an open-air shelter house. The cheaper cost will allow the council to spend the remaining funds on improvements at Fun Valley.

The change dropped the cost of the pavilion from more than $1.5 million to $390,000. The remaining funds will be used to renovate the restrooms and fund part of the bleacher replacement project.

Both projects at Fun Valley are expected to start in October. Completion of the pavilion will close out the Orchard Park project.
