HUTCHINSON, Kan. — As expected, the Hutchinson City Council approved the bid for the next phase of the Main Street project during its meeting Tuesday.

The contract is with Vogts-Parga Construction of Newton and comes at a cost of $1,599,981. This will include work from 18th Street south to 13th.

The council also approved an agreement with the Kansas Department of Transportation to resurface a portion of K-61 between Avenue G and Lorraine — this will basically cover the raised part of the highway that goes over Avenue A and the railroad tracks in that area.

The council also approved most requests for the special alcohol fund next year.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is requesting $10,000 next year. Boys and Girls Clubs of Hutchinson requested $22,500. Communities That Care is also requesting $22,500. The Reno County Drug Court is requesting $23,500 for its efforts.

The council did not approve any funds for the Behavioral Health Unit at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. The request did not meet the requirement.
