HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson City Council will seek approval for an agreement to make sidewalk and drainage improvements along a building at West Avenue B and Main.

Fair City Folk Art, LLC, is currently in the midst of a $1.5 million renovation to the building on the southwest corner of the intersection. The work will add ground floor shop spaces and remodel the vast upstairs ballrooms into an event space.

As the project proceeded, the owners of the building approached the city to discuss the condition of the curb, gutter and sidewalk along West B Street to the alley. After meeting with the city manager, both parties agreed to complete the design drawings and put the project out for bid. Three bids were reviewed. Vogts-Parga Construction from Newton was the low bidder at $49,217.

If the council approves the proposal, the cost will be split with Fair City Folk Art, LLC, paying $13 ,745.90 for new sidewalk. The remaining balance of $35,471.25 will be paid by the city for repairs to the curb, gutter, alley approach and new drainage inlet.

Tuesday’s meeting of the Hutchinson City Council begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Hutchinson city offices.
