Members of two Co-op’s have defeated a merger proposal in voting that took place Monday night in Wichita Co-op
Voting members of the Andale Farmers Cooperative and Farmers Cooperative Elevator of Halstead voted against the merger.
According to Jack Queen of the Farmers Cooperative Elevator of Halstead, the merger was almost along the line of each Co-op with approval given in Halstead and defeated in Andale.
Queen says he’s disappointed and a little surprised by the outcome of Monday nights results, but said they will move on.
Together the two Co-ops have about 1,300 voting members with annual sales of $100 million to $150 million, and profits of $2.5 million to $4 million.
The merger required two-thirds support from the members of each co-op.
