The 2013 “Coats for Kids” program wrapped up Thursday and it appears to be an impressive out pouring from the community once again.

According to Chris Nelson with Ineeda Cleaners, this years total was near an all-time record with 3-thousand, 142-coats collected.

There was an extra effort made this year to collect children’s coats and the community came through by giving over 1-thousand coats in kids sizes. Many were brand new.

Major James Mungi with the Salvation Army says they’re very excited for the opportunity to distribute these coats, especially since the need continues to grow. He continues to be impressed with the generosity of the Hutchinson and Reno County community.

In addition to coats, 38-blankets and numerous hats and gloves were also donated.

Distribution is Saturday from 9 a-m till 1 p-m, at the Salvation Army headquarters at 700 North Walnut.

It will be getting cold, so in order to receive a coat, you must show up in person and bring any children you have with you. Anyone who needs a coat is encouraged to show up.
