Code Red Alert System to be utilized next Wednesday

Reno County in partnership with the City of Hutchinson will be utilizing the CodeRED Emergency Notification System on May 30, to call the entire community to announce and promote the CodeRED Weather Warning system. CodeRED Weather Warning is an automated severe weather alerting service.

The calls will occur in the afternoon and will continue until the entire database has been attempted. If your current contact information is not in the database you will not receive a call.
The message being delivered directs recipients to the City of Hutchinson or Reno County’s web site to opt into the system and select the types of warnings they are interested in receiving. Citizens must add their information to receive the severe weather warning alerts; this data will also populate the CodeRED database.

The call will also ask that everyone share this information with their families, friends and neighbors.

Bill Guy, Reno County Emergency Management Director, urges all Reno County citizens and businesses to visit the City of Hutchinson website at www.hutchgov.com, or Reno County’s website at www.renogov.org and opt into the CodeRED Weather Warning system. You may opt in by clicking on the CodeRED logo located on both websites.

Required information includes a street address (physical address, no P.O. boxes) for the alert location, and a primary phone number. Additional contact information to include cellular phones and other non-traditional phones as well as email and text addresses (for use by the CodeRED system).

It’s important that individuals should register, as well as businesses who have unlisted phone numbers, those who have changed their phone numbers recently and those who use a cellular phone exclusively or have VoIP phones (such as Vonage) as their primary numbers.
More information about the CodeRED Weather Warning system is on the website, any questions should be directed to Reno County Emergency Management at 620 694-2974.
