Commission approves grants; tables 1 item

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County Commission approved all of the items on its agenda Tuesday with the exception of one.

Commissioners tabled a bid for the courthouse hydronic piping and equipment replacement for a cost at or below the engineer’s estimate of just under $990,000. They are expected to look at that item next Tuesday.

Commissioners did approve two grants for community corrections. One is approval for a comprehensive plan grant in the amount of $716,684. This grant funds the majority of the adult supervision program. The other is a behavioral health grant in the amount of $208,853. This grant pays for programming and services for clients including transitional housing, in particular, helping some clients into one of the Oxford Houses in town.

On a 2-1 vote, they approved Hutchinson Regional Medical Center’s recommendation for the purchase of an EMS unit at a cost of $190,473. That was not the lowest bid, but its length and quality supplanted the other three bids.

They also approved the Reno County Sheriff’s request to purchase a 2018 Ford F-150 Pursuit Rated 4×4 crew cab pickup from Midwest Ford at a total cost of $16,120. The old truck will actually be purchased by the maintenance department at a cost of $19,000. Commissioner Dan Deming voted against both of these items.
