HUTCHINSON, Kan. — After a little more discussion over the replacement of three bridges and possibly a fourth, commissioners passed the resolution that allows for bonds totaling $5,512,500, although they would be granted a project authorization of $6,411,500.

Commissioners agreed that the three bridges need the work. That includes replacing the bridge on 43rd between the old K-61 and Lucille Drive. This is because of the extensive use of the bridge that serves nearby Prairie Hills Middle School.

Others include the bridge on Nickerson Road just south of the city of Nickerson and the Nickerson Boulevard Bridge just outside the city of Hutchinson.

If bids are favorable, they could use some of the bond money for work on the bridge off of Wilson Road going into Willowbrook.

The county will be able to pay off other bonds currently in effect, which means the county bond debt won’t be affected.

But, don’t look for the work to begin anytime soon. It could take up to 18 months just for the design work on each bridge.
