HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County Commission made no decision over a planning and zoning case after a public hearing. David and Elsie Keim requested a special use permit to establish a monthly auction facility. The property at 3114 E. Red Rock Rock Rd., just west of Yoder, is currently zoned for single-family residential. The Keims have been holding the auctions for some time in violation of county zoning.
The planning commission voted 7-0 against the plan because of parking issues with the current location.
Commissioners also noted that those attending the auctions are often parking on Red Road and Switzer Road near the property. This is not allowed under county regulations.
There have also been complaints from neighbors who say there have been animals wandering onto their property, attendees using private drives to leave the auction, and trash issues.
The Commission made no decision on the request, but the issue should come back next week for consideration.
