HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County Commission Tuesday heard an update on the master plan for the Reno County Landfill and also proposed rate increases for this year.

As it stands now, residents and commercial businesses pay $80 per unit, an out-of-county user tipping fee of $31.75 per ton, a contaminated soil fee of $39 per ton, and the special waste fee of $39 per ton.
The rate for county residents could go up by $6. That $86 total could then be $92 next year and $98 in 2020.
That would mean resident’s cost per ton would increase this year to $20.33. However, landfill officials note that this cost would be well below the state average of $38.94.
This item was up for discussion only. Any decisions on landfill rates will come before the commission for possible action next week.
