The second appearance in court for a Hutchinson Correctional Facility inmate didn’t go a whole lot better Friday morning then it did back on September 22.

The first time 23-year-old Charles Hollingsworth was in court, he wouldn’t or couldn’t give his name, so Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen had the Department of Corrections officers take him back to prison.

So. they tried again Friday bringing him back to court to hear the formal complaint of battery of a law enforcement officer, and attempt to batter a law enforcement officer. In court, Hollingsworth told the judge that he didn’t recognise the court, and again wouldn’t give his name. He told the judge that he is a “Secured Party Credit,” whatever that means, and objected to being in court.

The charges themselves center on an incident back on July 17, when he allegedly battered corrections officer Craig Koenigs, and threatened to do the same to officer Daran Collins, with a mixing paddle, but didn’t succeed.

Hollingsworth is serving time for a conviction of murder in the first degree and kidnapping for a case out of Shawnee County, which occurred in July of 2006. He’s been at the local prison since November of 2007.

He along with others killed David Owen, an advocate for homeless people to call their families and get off the streets. He was killed near a homeless camp along the Kansas River near downtown Topeka. Hollingsworth was one of at least two people involved in the lynching death of Owen.

According to the Kansas Department of Corrections, there is no parole date in the murder case and with the Reno County charges, he’s looking at more time in prison, however, it may not matter.
