MCPHERSON, Kan. — Personnel from the McPherson Police Department and the McPherson County Sheriff’s Office are inviting area residents to join them in attending ‘Cookies with a Cop’.

The McPherson Convention Visitors Bureau (CVB) is sponsoring this event, which will begin at 4 p.m. at the McPherson Museum, 1111 E. Kansas Ave.

The majority of law enforcement interactions with the public typically occur during emergencies or other emotionally charged situations. These contacts are not effective for relationship building with the community and some residents may feel officers are unapproachable on the street.

‘Cookies with a Cop’ will provide a unique opportunity for residents to ask questions, discuss community concerns, learn more about local law enforcement, and hopefully, break down barriers in a relaxed, one-on-one environment…all while enjoying sweet treats courtesy of the McPherson CVB.

Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. ‘Cookies with a Cop’ is a similar event like many others happening across the county, as local law enforcement agencies strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.

The program aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships between law enforcement and residents one cup of coffee –or cookie at a time.
