After releasing figures for last years wheat harvest earlier this month, the USDA released the 2011 numbers for both soybeans and corn on Thursday. While the south central area of Kansas is more known for wheat some of the numbers for the other crops was pretty good.

The south central region which includes Reno County took in nearly 41-million bushels of corn last year and 10.2 million bushels of soy beans. Both rank in the middle of the pack in the states nine regions.

Bean production for Reno County ranked 2nd in the region in both acreage planted, at 87-thousand acres; and production at nearly 1.3 million bushels.

Far fewer acres were planted to corn in Reno County with 48-thousand acres planted and production totals of 3.3 million bushels.

State wide soybean production dropped by 27% from the previous year at 101.3 million bushels.

Corn production fell 23% to 449.4 million bushels in 2011.
