HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson City Council approved action for two major park projects during today’s agenda session.

The first was for two playground equipment projects at Carey Park and at the new Southwest Bricktown Park. The Carey Park project will be located just west of the McQueen ball fields at a cost of $75,000.

The other project for Southwest Bricktown came about after the United Way provided a grant and Heartland Credit Union made a $30,000 donation to provide playground equipment. Hutch Rec is also providing a picnic area for the project. The cost is around $60,000. Parks Director Justin Combs hopes they can have community volunteers construct the playgrounds as they have done with past projects.

The other park project was a request for Qualifications for engineering work to be done at Fun Valley. The Parks Department wants to replace the aging bleachers and center section of the ball complex. The council approved a contract with BG Consultants for $25,000.

The work would be done in 2019 with a projected cost around $700,000.
