Former Country 102.9 Personality Darlene Scott Passes Away

Darlene Scott, 61, passed away Sept. 30, 2011, at her home in Hutchinson. She was born May 9, 1950, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Robert and Imogene Tomlin Scott. Darlene graduated from Buhler High School and attended Hutchinson Community College, studying radio broadcasting.

A Hutchinson native, she worked as a local radio personality for over 25 years. Darlene retired from Country 102.9 Radio Station in December 2010, a job that she was known for her dedication to, and from which she derived great joy and satisfaction. Darlene touched the lives of many people with her generosity, compassion and sharp sense of humor. She had a strong faith and beautifully embodied Jesus’ teachings to help the needy and reserve passing judgment on others.

Darlene’s greatest joy, outside of her family, was reading. Darlene leaves to celebrate her memory, her father, Robert Scott and wife Joyce of South Hutchinson; a daughter, Jade Piros de Carvalho and husband Alex of Hutchinson; a son, Randall Scott of Hutchinson; a brother, Ronald Scott and wife Pat of South Hutchinson; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, along with countless radio listeners, friends and family who were blessed to know her.

She was preceded in death by her mother; a brother, Randall Scott; and a sister, Roberta Scott. Cremation is planned. Friends may sign a book from 9 a-m to 9 p-m, Tuesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p-m at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory, Hutchinson.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a-m Wednesday at First Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson, with Pastor Bones Nay presiding. Inurnment will follow at Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hutchinson Public Library, in care of the funeral home.
