HUTCHINSON, Kan. – As expected the Reno County Commission went through the actual agenda pretty quickly.

They approved the revised Reno County Public Works Department policy for signage on township roads. The townships are not considered local authority meaning they cannot erect signs on township roads on their own.

Under the policy, they must submit a written request signed by two or more township officials that a sign in needed at a specific location. The township would then be billed for all costs performed for the traffic study or review for both regulatory and non-regulatory signs.

The only change is that the townships will be required to pay for any consultant fee which apparently they have already started doing. Public Works Director Dave McComb admits it doesn’t happen all that often, maybe once a year and the cost is around $400.00 to $500.00.

The commission also approved a donated sick leave policy which allows eligible employees of the county to transfer or donate sick leave to other qualifying employees who experience personal serious, extreme or life threatening injuries.

The commission also approved the purchase of furniture and other office items from Roberts Hutch-Line for the old jail annex which is being converted to office space for four county departments.
