Reno County Commissioners took more than an hour Tuesday to discuss changes being proposed to their tax incentive policy for economic development during their regular meeting.

Attending at the invitation of Commissioner Brad Dillon was City Councilman Bob Bush and Chamber President Dave Kerr.

The issue that drew so much discussion was a request by Commissioner Dan Deming to hold incoming business accountable for the number of county workers they hire. That was met with opposition by Kerr, Dillon and others who felt that the wording would only make the incentive proposal more complicated, and could raise concerns about potential companies moving to Reno County.

Kerr also said that Hutchinson can’t just think of the Reno County area since so many have played a part in their success in bringing new business and industry to the area.

Most of the discussion was between Deming and Dillon who strongly disagreed that the language regarding a count of all county residents employed by a company should be a part of the incentive agreement. While it would not be a condition for getting an incentive package, Kerr strongly suggested it be left out.

No action was taken by the board during Tuesdays meeting.
