Although they started late Thursday afternoon, they did have another jail study workshop with Architect Dan Rowe with Treanor Architects who was hired to head up the proposed project.

Sheriff Randy Henderson indicated to us that they are now leaning more toward the Blanchard and Severance site, over any other. He says they have an estimated cost just to build the jail at anywhere from 20-million, 600-hundred thousand, to 28-million. That’s for the jail alone, and doesn’t include any upgrades to the current law enforcement center.

They have been looking at both, because of the tight conditions in both the area used by Hutchinson Police and the Reno County Sheriff’s Office. If the jail were to be moved, then that would open a lot of space for both, but there would also have to be a lot of renovations done to that area.

The sheriff also indicated a possible jail using around 78-thousand square feet.

The workshop was held at the Reno County Courthouse Thursday evening.
