Hutchinson Community College freshman punt returner Adrian Cross has been named the Jayhawk CrossConference Special Teams Player of the Week after his performance nearly fueled the second-largest comeback in team history last Saturday at Highland.

Cross’ three punt returns in the second half sparked the Blue Dragons from a 20-point deficit entering the fourth quarter to take a fourth-quarter lead, only to fall 26-21 at Highland.

Cross had punt returns of 39 yards to the Scotty 5 and 18 yards to the Hutch 40 that directly led to Blue Dragon fourth-quarter touchdowns.

Cross averaged 26 yards per return on three punts against the Scotties.  Cross also had three tackles and two passes broken up for the Hutch defense.

This is the second time this season that Cross has been named a conference player of the week. He was named the league’s defensive player of the week in Week 1 after a key interception in the end zone preserved HCC’s 34-29 win at No. 18 Coffeyville.

This is the third time this season that a Blue Dragon has been named a Jayhawk Conference Player of the Week. Ronheen Bingham was the KJCCC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 2.
